Help: discreet CCTV needed for evidence gathering - threatening neighbour

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:51 AM PDT

my 83 y/o Auntie lives in a ground floor apartment in a retirement village which backs onto public land. One of her neighbours keeps waking her up at all hours of the night by standing outside her bedroom window for hours at a time, shinning heavy duty torches and using night vision goggles to look inside.

The police have been contact and we were told that they couldn't do anything without evidence. Any time the police have approached the house during an incident the woman runs back into her house before they arrive.
The housing association which organises these homes will not respond to emails or phone calls.

So TLDR: We need a discreet CCTV camera which can record for up to 12 hours at a time and can see in very low light (like street light at night)

My auntie is an ex-carmelite nun who suffers with her mental health and is the gentlest thing you've ever know. She is terrified. Any help would be massively appreciated.

Buying home with Frontpoint equipment - want to understand my options

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 01:42 PM PDT

The home I am buying has a Frontpoint system. From what I can tell (haven't closed yet), the keypad is an Interlogix Simon XT and there are two outdoor cameras Alarm.com ADC-722W. There are also many door and window sensors.

I have some interest in local monitoring so I contacted a local alarm.com dealer for a quote. They will reuse the hardware as possible, but their monitoring and mobile app package is $39/month with a 36-month contract. Seems a bit steep? They have been around several decades and seem to have great reviews, though.

Alternatively, I am fairly handy and wouldn't mind a DIY solution. The cameras are very cleanly installed in the right places and with power, so I would like to leverage them if possible. What options do I have for those cameras? Is there any way to route them to HomeKit?

Anyone have Arlo? Wondering if the cameras and doorbell will work with our Orbi mesh WiFi as we just learned SimpliSafe’s do not...(details below)

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 07:03 PM PDT

Simplisafes cameras only work on 2.4 ghz channels - Orbi RBK50 blends both a 2.4 channel and a 5 channel into one and automatically switches which channel your device is connected to based on signal strength. Great feature, but SimpliSafe cameras can not figure it out and there's no option to name the 2.4 something different on orbi which is why we're now looking into Arlo cameras.

    Concord 4 "Supervisory Zone 09 10" alert

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:24 AM PDT

I apologize in advance for the profanity in the this article. I have been struggling with my alarm system for over a week, and I'm to the point that I want to go out and buy a shotgun just so I can repeatedly shoot this unit until it is nothing more than tiny pieces scattered in the wind.

My house has a Concord 4 alarm system. Many years ago, one of my roommates cut all the wires at each control pad because when I was out-of-town supposedly the external siren just started blaring and they didn't know what else to do. No big deal at the time because we never used the alarm. However, I'm about to sell my house, and I'd like to get the alarm system functional again.

I patched the wires at all the control pads and was immediately greeted with warning beeps about a low battery and no phone. I acknowledged the alerts, but every couple of hours it would trigger and beep again. Thus, I had to stop what I was doing and go to a control pad to acknowledge the alert, otherwise it beeps 5 times every minute. F$$$ing annoying. Even worse, this was on a Saturday afternoon, and the only place in town to get a replacement battery closes at 2 PM on Saturdays and is closed Sundays. When I drove there on Monday morning, they were closed for Labor Day. Ugh! 3 days of beeping, stop, acknowledge, repeat a few hours later. (By the way, I have since found the power brick for the unit--the power cord runs through the wall and is screwed onto a power outlet in a closet further away.)

When I finally got the battery, I was hoping the alarm would shut the f$$$ up. It did. "System OK". Yes! Success! I had an immense feeling of accomplishment. But that was short lived.

Soon it was complaining about the the phone again. After more research online (and regular beeping, stop, acknowledge, repeat), I discovered that I needed the installer code to remove the phone numbers, which should then disable the phone alert. Unfortunately, I didn't have the installer code. After many more hours of research online, I ended up buying an EEPROM reader from Amazon. Two more days of beeps beeps motherf$$$ing beeps. When the EEPROM reader arrived, I was finally able to get the installer code and delete the phone numbers. Note that even though I downloaded both the User and Installer manuals, it is easier to find and install the drivers for the EEPROM reader, physically pull the EEPROM chip from the alarm system motherboard, read the data, find the installer code, and reinstall the chip than to navigate the f$$$ing menus on the alarm panel and figure out where the f$$$ the phone numbers are, and then figure out how to f$$$ing delete them. I'm not even sure how I did it. There is no "delete" option, but I somehow managed to clear phone number 1 to match the blank entries on 2 and 3.

With that, "System OK". Sweet! Finally got all the alerts cleared. Success! I mentally checked off "Fix alarm system" from my long list of home repairs before selling and went to bed.

Then at 8 AM sharp the f$$$ing alarm system starts beeping again (apparently "sleep time" is 10 PM to 8 AM). MOTHERF$$$ER! This time the alert is "Supervisory Zone 09 10". WTF? Seriously, what the f$$$ is a "supervisory" alert? After digging through the manuals yet again, I gather it is monitoring sensors for things like low batteries. However, the motherboard itself only has inputs for zones 1-8. There aren't even physical connections for zones 9 and 10, so WHAT THE F$$$ IS IT "SUPERVISING"? These zones don't even exist! I can't find anything online or in the manuals regarding "Supervisory Zone 09 10", much less how to disable, clear, or reprogram it.

Please help! After a week of battling my alarm, I'm thinking that my alarm system has become sentient and now is just f$$$ing with me, and that I need to buy that shotgun to prevent a Skynet apocalypse.

    DIY setup for Home Ranch

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 10:43 AM PDT

My family just bought 4 acres of land with three buildings on it . We are repairing the garage already with the walls and ceiling torn down and I am wanting to run cables for future security cameras. My ideal setup would be POE and connected to my own pc and storage. I am thinking I would need at least 8 cameras but currently maybe only 4 and down the line would like ability to expand. For sure no subscriptions or contracts. I am willing to do all the work that is need to install and setup. I'm trying to cut cost for my family and have experience with running cable so a cheaper option for system would be preferred, but i am willing to see all cost options. My only previous experience is with two Wyze cams but I would prefer not to use wifi for cameras. Any advice or guidance on what systems could handle this situation would be greatly appreciated because I am new to security systems. Thanks for Help!

Question regarding pros and cons Qolsys IQ 2 Plus frequencies, apart from backward compatibility.

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 05:19 AM PDT

Hi all, I'm looking to move on from my current ADT Pulse (TSSC base). I'm currently leaning toward the Qolsys IQ 2 system, but have a question regarding their available frequencies:

It appears that their "default" configuration is the 319 MHz model, while my existing ADT sensors would require the 345 MHz model.

If it's all the same, I'd like to keep my ADT sensors, and not have to re-buy them. However, if there's a compelling reason that the 319 MHz model is superior (for example, I noticed that's the only one that mentions S-Line encryption), then I'm not at all opposed to replacing my sensors entirely, since I don't have that many of them in the grand scheme of things.

Looking forward to any input and insight this community can offer.

    Yale Doorman v2n

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:23 AM PDT

Hello. I tried posting this in home defense, but I may have misinterpreted that subreddit and since I guess it's not a weapon, my question was downvoted.

Does anyone have any experience with the Yale Doorman v2n (or earlier versions)? What are its weaknesses and strengths? Can it be hacked or skimmed easily? Disabled with a magnet a'la lockpickinglawyer?

I'm considering this product because of my kid, and it being time to change locks anyway. Seems like an OK deterrent as well as being liked by insurance companies.

    Security System Questions

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 07:52 AM PDT

I'm looking to have a security system installed on a large garage that will allow each person access, with individual pin numbers. It would be great to be able to identify each time the building was accessed and by who.

Does this type of system exist?
