One camera per monitor, best way?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:11 PM PDT

I currently have 6 PoE cameras running to a powered switch, monitored/recorded by a dedicated PC running Blue Iris 5. I have 6 screens mirrored to 2 monitors using a simple VGA splitter.

I would like to run each camera to its own monitor, with 6 monitors on the wall. How do I do this?

[ask] Mi Home vs Yi Home vs yi IoT

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:51 PM PDT

so i am looking for an ip camera that use wireless network without the need of a dvr or nvr.

in my country Indonesia, the only popular one that i can find is ipcam from xiaomi which come with 3 different apps which i think it is because it is made from subsidiaries company from xiaomi.

for few years i am stuck with mi home apps using xiaofang (first edition and revised 1s edition) both of them have a very common issue which is:

    1. very slow to connect, it takes 10-20 second to load the camera to live view
    2. most of the time the camera hangs or network timeout
    3. all of them promise sd card recording which is not working anymore after a few weeks usage.

so maybe anyone can give me their thought about how is the experience using ipcam from Yi Home or Yi IoT. since i want to replace my Mi Home and in my country there is no return policy if we are not satisfied with the product we order in short period of time.

Do a wirefree, continuous recording, 4k camera exist?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 02:17 PM PDT

I live in a small awkward shaped house and I have zero handyman skills I don't know how to run any kind of cords throughout my house, I don't even know how to use a drill (I plan on learning soon). So I've accepted my fate that I must get wire-free cameras. However, I need a wire-free camera that records continuously, 4k, and records audio. I would love ptz but that may be asking for to much. No budget, I'm willing to spend anything if I can find it.

    Basic security system design

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:49 PM PDT

I have purchased the Abode smart security kit and look forward to installing it.

I'm looking to expand the system significantly, but am unsure of what I really need. When should one use a door sensor vs a motion detector?

I have a sunroom with several sliding glass doors. Should I put a sensor on them all or get a motion detector?

In my application I think window sensors are not necessary (my windows are hinged crank style and don't open very wide), but I'm not 100% sure.

I want motion triggered video monitoring of my driveway. Do I want it to be part of Abode or via another HomeKit compatible system?

All these things make me think I need to learn a little about security system design basics.

Is there a go to resource this sub recommends?

    I also posted at r/abode

    Reolink vs Lorex vs Swann?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:44 AM PDT

I'm looking to do a four camera 4k setup, with one on each side of the house, and I've seen these brands a lot. I know someone with Swann, and he really likes it, but it doesn't have two way audio, and that's a feature I'd like. I'd like to keep it under $500 if possible. Are these pretty good brands, or is there another route I should look at?

Blink Cameras being attacked by birds and insects.

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 12:52 PM PDT

Basically the title. Probably once a week my front door camera is triggered by some little birds dive bombing it and occasionally a wasp buzzing around it. Are they bad at infrared or something? Just hate my stupid face so they attack my stuff?

Can someone help me turn off my ADT system?!

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 12:21 PM PDT

Recently moved into a house with a pre-existing ADT system. I intend to migrate to Nest and would like to disable the existing system.

This box is located in a closet, along with the plug.

After I unplug the plug, what do I do in the box? Thank you!

UK indoor camera recommendations with UK server cloud and micro sd recording?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:20 AM PDT

I know many people here recommend wyze for a budget indoor camera but they are difficult to get hold of or twice the price here in the UK, and many on amazon are fake apparently, and cloud services are based in US.

Is there a similar budget camera that has continuous UK based cloud recording and micro sd recording?

    Camera Recommendations

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:02 AM PDT

    Hey,

I'm right now looking for 2 outdoor cameras, they would be placed around my house.

I have been looking at 5 and 8 megapixel cameras.

One thing I also have been thinking about is how I would connect everything. Since I have a budget on the whole system at around 800 dollars, I thought it would be most wise to get some cat 5 cables, a poe injector and a nvr. Another thing which I'm uncertain about is brand and features, I would like to get some more advanced motion detection. I have looked into if a Synology NAS would be an option but I figured out it was to expensive.

These are the cameras I have yet looked into

Would these allow me to use them without NVR?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 08:14 AM PDT

I want a single outdoor camera that would record on the internal storage but i'm wondering how hard it could be to set it up so that it can work how i want it to.

I would like to make it record only when there is movement and when the SD card is full it would overwrite the oldest files and write new ones over them.

    I found these cameras: https://ca.hikvision.com/en/products/cameras/network-camera/value-series/outdoor-bullet/fixed-focal

They aren't cheap but it's okay because my budget it around 1000$

    Would these work?

    Thanks.
