    Hi There-

I did post on pfsense, homedefense and homeserver subreddits before. My previous plan was like this - https://i.imgur.com/JF7PndL.png

I changed it to this after our prebuilder meet yesterday and based on those other subreddits's comments - https://i.imgur.com/VXv424c.png . I request your valuable comments on this because I believe this subreddit is much more suitable than the other ones that I sought after before.

    1. I decided to stay away from Ubiquiti environment.
    2. VLAN 727 is internal only. Unless I connect to my pfsense router via OpenVPN, those IP cameras, NVR/Blue Iris PC cannot be accessed. It is strictly banned from outside internet via pfsense.
    3. VLAN 626 is for my outside world communications. Only the AP in family room and Media room PC has access to VLAN626. Rest all devices, IP cams, NVRs etc are on VLAN727 to stay indoor.
    4. Is the VLAN727+VLAN626 between two FS switches possible?
    5. Can I make the single POE camera in media room under VLAN727 and block it from external internet access? I assumed so and made the design like that. Reason for media room access is to keep the upstairs game room and bedroom areas under surveillance.
    6. UPNP will be disabled.
    7. The 8 port switch delivers 260W of POE+ power. So I believe I am good.
    8. The POE+ splitters are because I cannot run extra cable to those locations. So found these little hardware units to split my POE+ signal and feed my multiple endpoints.
    9. Just realized that I can totally remove the 16channel NVR and use the media room PC for blue iris. Please comment if there will be any issues with this.

All roasts, suggestions, comments are welcome. Lot of thanks.

[UK] Security system for a remote cottage?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:53 AM PST

Looking to setup a system with the following:

    • Camera for main entrance and courtyard (high motion sense)
    • Rear garden camera (low motion sense - as it looks onto the sea/water, livestock)
    • Veritus Wifi/4G Weather station

The cottage has excellent 4G connection (weather dependant) and there is also a copper PSTN line (underground), with a Fibre exchange 4 miles away.

Should I go for individual cameras with their own dedicated 4G SIM cards (redundancy)?

    -Or -

Wifi cameras with a 4G Router?

    -Or -

Wifi Cameras with a ADSL Router?

    • What happens with bad connections, do some cameras spool recording data?
    • Can cameras be switched off remotely, if guests are staying at the cottage?
    • Will IP65 rated cameras survive coastal / salty air?

Any recommendations, interested to know what you would do if this was your cottage. Would you have home automation as well, or a local server etc.?

Note - crime is low as you can imagine in a remote area, its more so I can keep an eye on the property and make sure, the sea hasn't swallowed it up or the roof hasn't blown off in a storm.

    Integrating Alarm Panel with NVR

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 09:03 AM PST

Hi, I am new to the group and to the alarm/surveillance world.
I am planning a system for my house but want to have IP cameras working together with infrared barriers, door sensors and PIR/MW sensors. It's a relatively large house so want to have zones with different settings and want it to send SMS/phone calls in the event of an intrusion
After some research, I have the impression that I need both an Alarm Panel and an NVR. Some NVRs seem to have Alarm Inputs, but not the same level of control and sophistication of the dedicated Alarm Panels.
    My questions:

    • is there an integrated NVR+Alarm Panel solution available on the same device?
    • if I need to use 2 different devices in an integrated way, do I need to connect the Alarm outputs from the Alarm Panel to the Alarm inputs in the NVR, or, is there a way to have them talk to each directly through the IP network?
    • If I integrate the 2 (regardless of how), can I do things like having the NVR check if there was an human body on the scene when the IR barrier was activated (eg, to avoid cats triggering it)?

Any help here will be very welcome.

    best regards

    Moura
