    Recommendation for indoor outdoor cameras

    Posted: 08 May 2020 06:09 PM PDT

Hi, I would like some recommendations for a system or products with these needs for my house:

-2 outdoor cameras -window/door sensor capabilities -no monthly fee - ability to view the cameras from an app on my phone - ability to record or store on the cloud -not interested in police dispatch or monitoring

Related: -Video doorbell with no monthly fee, doesn't need to be the same system

I did order Wyze since it was so cheap but they don't have an outdoor camera, only indoor. But I really love their window sensor system. Is Wyze able to integrate with any other products besides the ones listed on their website? I was also looking at Cove, it has everything I want but a monthly fee of $15 for monitoring.

Options for a single elderly woman?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:14 AM PDT

Hey y'all! So glad this subreddit exists, I have no experience with home systems and there's way too many options on Google so I'll ask those who know 😊 My mother is 70 and lives alone in an apartment complex. She's asked for a home security system for Mother's Day. I'll buy it outright and she wants to spend ~20/month; we'd prefer no contract. The problem is that she's not tech savvy at all, we've even tried a "senior friendly" smart phone but that didn't work out. So, what's the best option and how much can I expect to spend? We don't really need cameras, although the camera doorbell might be a good idea if it's easy to use. The apartment is a 2 bedroom, ~1000 sq ft, with a total of 3 large windows (that slide vertically), a normal front door and a back door that has a window pane. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm really at a loss as far as where to start. TIA!

    Thinking about cancelling ADT

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:50 AM PDT

I am thinking about cancelling my ADT, which my family has had for years. I have a very old system that uses a landline (which also I want to get rid of), thats just door/window sensors, big alarm and a keypad. I was actually surprised how much this was costing me. I was paying about $50 a month (yes thats right, for a 1990s alarm) I actually called and asked why I was paying so high for a non ADT Pulse system and the rep asked "How much you want to pay?" and I answered "around $20" and he lowered it to 25 a month. Thats was about 2 years ago , now its up to $35 a month. So now I'm at the point where I just want to drop them completely. If I do cancel my Alarm, can I still use it as unmonitored? And Since it runs on a landline , which I also am about to get rid of, can I run it unmonitored without a landline? If not, how do I properly shut down the system?

Can I use satellite dish wire for a security camera?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 02:40 PM PDT

    I'm a total noob.

I have a 5 year old DirecTV dish right where I want to install my camera, it's about 75' away from the house and the wire is already buried under my driveway.

Can I repurpose this wire? Will I need a separate power source?

    Home Safe

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:41 AM PDT

Hello! ive recently started looking for a safe box due to an increase of cash.

I've mostly looked at "TIGERKING SAFE BGX-D1-43JJD BLACK" because of its design and price. The big bummer is that the safe itself costs around 250 Euros, but they almost want 250 more for the shippings since none of them seems to be located near Finland(mostly ships from china or usa)

Anyone know a safe box with similar looks/price or even that same safe box somewhere here in Europe from where i can order one?

    Looking for alternatives to Brinks

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:34 AM PDT

We've been a Brinks customer ever since they were a top pick on the Wirecutter site years ago.

    Boy, do they suck now.

The alarm product itself is antiquated but seems to work fine.

The support is HORRIBLE. Every time I call them, they fumble around for 20 minutes, then put me on hold for 20 minutes, and then get Alarm.com on the phone, who is able to intelligently answer my question in 5 minutes.

It's impossible to contact them in writing. Via Twitter, they tell you to call. Via email, they ignore you. Via SMS, they tell you to call.

I spoke to a supervisor, who sent me to a customer service rep, and they offered me a whopping $5/month discount, but only if I sign a new 12-month contract. No thanks. I'll gladly pay $1k for a new system to not have to deal with them again.

We're pretty happy with the Alarm.com service, and would like to not have to replace all of our Z-Wave devices.

Does anyone know an Alarm.com reseller who actually provides decent support and ideally doesn't cost $40/month? The money isn't a huge deal, but I feel like I'm paying a premium price for a really shitty level of service.

Our setup is a SimonXT panel, a remote touchpad, 30 door/window sensors, 2 motion sensors, 3 panic buttons, 1 flood sensor, and 20 Z-wave lights. I'm very comfortable with programming and self-maintenance, but would like to not lose the Alarm.com automation plus monitoring.
