Neolink: Reverse engineering Reolink cameras to support RTSP

    Posted: 16 May 2020 05:20 PM PDT

Hey all, I reverse engineered my Reolink B800 cameras and wrote software connecting them to Blue Iris (or any other RTSP client):

I am in need of testers who have other "NVR only" cameras—I'd like to make Neolink work with them as well. Anyone willing to experiment?

Looking for a solar powered flood/security light recommendation.

    Posted: 16 May 2020 03:14 PM PDT

My brother is a delivery driver, and he and a few other drivers have a deal with the owner of an empty lot to park their delivery vans there over night. Problem is, there is no lights or electricity, and the past couple of weeks the drivers have had to fight off homeless people camping around and sometimes inside the trucks. Apparently a knife was pulled a few days ago, so things seem to be escalating. They want to install some motion-activated lights on the wall of an adjacent building, hoping that would deter anyone from hanging out around there, but since there is no way to run power they need to run off of solar. I looked at some Brinks branded lights at Walmart, but they felt a little... flimsy to me. The wall is at least two stories, maybe three, so there isn't much worry about anyone climbing up there to mess with them, but I don't think the ones I saw a Walmart would hold up too well to a couple of well-aimed rocks.

They want to spend around $50 per light; is there anything that might fit the bill? Thanks!

DIY home NVR with wifi motion activated cameras?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 06:28 PM PDT

My wife and I live in a completely wooded area in which wildlife is common. I am looking to build a DIY wifi NVR capable of four wireless cameras minimum, motion activated recording, and storage to a local file server.

Has someone else here already built such a beast?

POE Outdoor Camera Suggestions (links provided)

    Posted: 16 May 2020 11:11 PM PDT

Hello! I'm relatively new to home security in general, but I've been doing lots of research on outdoor camera systems and would like some advice if anyone out there is willing to give it. Here's what I'm working with:

    Things That I'm Looking For

    • NVR-based outdoor camera system, ideally an 8 channel setup or more.

    • POE cameras with decent night vision.

    • A system that has good detection capabilities that I can monitor from my phone.

    • I'm not shy when it comes to DIY, but ideally I'd like something that is relatively straightforward to get set up but that I can build on over time with additional, more advanced cameras.

    • I'd like to spend no more than $1k - $1.2k for my initial setup. Obviously if I can get a quality setup for less than this I'd be stoked, but this is my upper limit.

    • Audio recording is a nice to have, but not required.

    Potential Options I've Found

    Additional Information

Thanks in advance to anyone who might have some input here. If you think I'm missing any information that would be helpful in soliciting advice please let me know! I'm also open to any options that are not the ones I have linked here. Thanks again, and I hope everyone is doing well out there!

    Reolink client on server

    Posted: 16 May 2020 12:37 PM PDT

I'm running the Reolink default app for recording but finding since the start the program seems to randomly close itself. It's running on my home server that is a 24/7 desktop I don't monitor daily. I've tried anything I can think of but every few days I'll check and find the program has closed again, this is causing me to lose recording slots.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm expecting quite a few to recommend buying Blue Iris but I'd prefer not to go there unless I need to.

Does Blink, Arlo, etc. suffer from privacy concerns like Ring?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 08:37 AM PDT

You may be aware of Rings concerns about privacy as outlined here https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/02/ring-updates-device-security-and-privacy-ignores-larger-concerns. I am interested in Blink but notice they are also owned by amazon.

I'd like something fairly secure without going the whole route of having a PC handling wired cams. The wireless factor is important and I'd ideally not like any monthly payments. But I'd also like to be sure the video remains private and not hackable/given to law enforcement without my consent. Thank you.

WiFi Security Camera & Google Drive

    Posted: 16 May 2020 02:29 PM PDT

Would anyone know how I could save my camera footage to good drive? I want to avoid using a subscription cloud service.

    Thanks,

motion detection & one of E-mail, FTP, HTTP, NAS. Preference?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 11:53 AM PDT

I have a vivotek doorbell, it supports motion detection and can be configured to upload a video or snapshot.

For uploading, I can choose between E-mail, FTP, NAS, HTTP. I have setup an FTP server.

I notice that there is some noticeable delay between FTP-ing the TAR file with the mp4 + snaphot and the "motion detection" event. The TAR file is 5mb.

I guess I can try defining a rule where a standalone napshot is uploaded with "high" priority and the the MP4 with "normal" priority? Any other suggestions? (Eventually, a DIY console should give an alert when motion is detected by the doorbell or when a file appears in an (FTP?) folder)

I just received my Blink XT2 system last night. I got everything connected, I just need to mount the cameras.

Does anybody have any experience with setting up the activity zones? I want one on my porch and don't want it going off every time a car drives by, or the wind blows the leaves. Will making the zones inactive that cover just the street and tree work, or do I need to give myself a bigger buffer on those?
