What system best aligns with my security needs?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:37 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for the following attributes in a home security system. I can't determine if I should go with a professional company, SimpliSafe, Nest, Abode, Ring, or mix and match.

    1) Exterior cameras (x3) that can allow for viewing video on phone; cloud storage: Probably leaning toward wireless. 2) Professional monitoring 3) Easy to use interior setup with multiple entry detectors for doorways. 4) Arm/disarm/review video footage all from one app. 5) Cost is not the biggest concern, although more affordable would be ideal. If Nest is best, then I'd pay for it.

Whenever I look into the big name DIY brands, it seems as though they rely on interior cameras and sensors first and foremost and not necessarily outdoor cameras. Should I just buy Abode for the hub and add Nest or other outdoor cameras? Or should I just go with Ring and add exterior cameras?

There are far too many options, and a lot of the older threads aren't as up to date with all of the new options.

TLDR: deciding which security system is best for me. Want a one-stop-shop mobile app, easy to use, with exterior cameras.

    Thanks!!

    HD in Mass.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:26 PM PDT

I live in MA-978 and I'm getting mixed signals regarding HD. I've been looking into various shotguns, and have decided on a Mossberg https://www.mossberg.com/product/590-9-shot-50695/ A friend who owns approx. 90 firearms and was a former P.O., told me to rethink. He said if you shoot a bad guy carrying a gun in your living room, in the middle of the night your gonna be fucked. He said I'd be in jail or need bail till a hearing or longer, get sued by relatives or the perp ( if he lives) fight with bleeding hearts and liberals, get bad and unwanted publicity by news and a possible conviction of manslaughter or attempted etc.etc. MA does have a Castle Law (threat of severe injury or death), and (NO) Stand your Ground law. Does anybody have thoughts on non-lethal alternatives, or do I move to NH!!

Not another post asking for security camera recommendations

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:24 AM PDT

But actually it is. I couldn't find any other posts with answers as specific as what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to get a camera for my condo. It's going to be indoors, facing out a window onto a patio area directly in front of the window and my parking spot about 50ft away. I don't need it to see faces, just people throwing trash or letting their dogs go on my patio area, or my parking spot neighbors hitting my car (which they've done multiple times already). Clear license plates would be nice, but I've read that sort of quality only comes on much more expensive models. The area is well lit at night, so I can probably sacrifice IR nightvision (though I think the IR wouldn't work well anyway pointing through a window?).

I really don't want anything that requires Wifi access or an app to operate, but almost everything I find relies on those, or requires a massive recording station setup. I just want it to be able to record locally to an SD card, and overwrite old recordings as it goes. What I'm imagining is more similar to a GoPro, but with slightly lower quality and durable enough to run 24/7.

My budget is around $300-500 for a single camera. Does anyone have any good recommendations I can look into?

    Self/Home defence products

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 11:20 PM PDT

Hello all, hope everyone is safe and well. I am a father of three living in the UK. With the growing psychological unrest and sometimes what seems to be panic I am forced to consider the safety of my home in a completely different way. I have looked and see nothing. Can anyone help me with resources or vendors that sell the best home defence products? Thank you!

    Best CCTV for the money?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:59 PM PDT

No need to post details on why because I understand the electronics, nitrates, real resolution vs scaling, etc, so whats the best system for the money? Swann seems to be decent and the 1080p cameras with a 4k recorder is very inviting. Will they last? Aaaaaaand go!
