Posted: 30 May 2020 02:14 PM PDT Just out of interest/ curiosity really, what retention times is everyone using for their CCTV systems? Using a H265, high quality 10fps system with 7 x 4MP and 2 x 2MP cameras I'm getting 7 days on 2TB which I think is sufficient for my application (domestic CCTV system); but interested to see what other folks are doing out there. I'm tempted to buy another 2TB WD Purple and increase this to 14 days but also very much aware when it comes to backups I'm also doubling storage space requirements there too! Also for those with longer retention periods (e.g. 31 days plus) what're your setup and quality settings etc? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2020 05:07 PM PDT This seems like an easy one, but my web searches have come up with nothing. We got a fence installed, and it has two gates. One can be seen from the back door for a visual check to ensure it's closed before letting the dog out, but the other can't be seen from the door. I'm aware of the inexpensive magnetic devices that alert you to a door/gate OPENING, but what I'm looking for is something like a confirmation light that would confirm whether the gate is opened or closed, displayed inside the house. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
eufy video doorbell battery version - need advice please Posted: 30 May 2020 08:00 PM PDT she said she would when she had time, so a few days later i asked her about it, and she tells me yes she saw who did it, but she can not tell me as it is against policy. i have filed a police report but nothing has happened. so, i would like to have my own security camera. i think the eufy video doorbell would be perfect for my needs, but i have a few questions: how secure is the doorbell itself from being taken by some knucklehead thief ? is it possible to secure it to the front door itself ? it is thick wood. can the apartment manager deny me permission to have one ? money is a bit of an issue, so i do not think i could afford a professional security setup by the big names. i have trouble getting around so i depend on having goods delivered to my home (apartment but it is my castle, my home) i appreciate all helpful advice. thank you. What alarm system announces the sensor that is triggered? Posted: 30 May 2020 01:19 PM PDT 10-15 years ago we used to have Brinks (IIRC) that used to chime when a window or door would open. Is their an alarm system that announces (kitchen door, kitchen window, etc) which sensor opened? [link] [comments] |

Is it possible to set up remote viewing with just modem and DVR? Posted: 30 May 2020 04:54 PM PDT The router is upstairs on the opposite side of home, while the DVR is located right next to the modem in the basement. Possible to connect the DVR and modem by Ethernet and be able to get remote viewing through DDNS? Cameras are connected to DVR via R59 cables Or is the only option to create a wireless bridge and connect the DVR that way? Any insight appreciated cheers! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2020 06:38 AM PDT Hey there, I'm trying to help my parents with their camera setup. Fair warning - I know nothing about cameras / the standard terminology. They currently have 3 outdoor cameras (at roof height) that are wired to a ... DVR(?) in their basement. The cameras are wired using Powered Ethernet cables (8 wires) - some guy set it up and charged them a fortune. Right now, I believe their setup is 2 megapixels (1080p, right?). With their setup, they can't really read a license plate or make out a person's face. They've decided it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking to get them another 3-camera outdoor (dome preferred) setup, but at a higher resolution. Budget is around $500 USD or so. We're located in Canada, so some companies might not ship to us. Please help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2020 10:33 AM PDT My house has about a dozen old, golf ball looking PTZ IP cams, mostly generic. They're hooked into a POE router, and have a separate dummy IP address allocation from the "regular" home internet. I access them from a laptop using their built in web servers (I rarely from a cellphone.) They're starting to fail, and I'd like to replace them. I dislike having to use an app to view them, and I'd like to keep them on the POE that I have now. I have a Ring doorbell, Nest fire alarm, and Alexa Show, if that helps. Are there some recommended systems that you can access from a laptop (i.e. not completely dependent on an iPhone app)? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 May 2020 03:02 AM PDT Hi everyone I have a 4 channel floureon cctv system which we access through the XMEye app on mobile. I want to access the cameras using RTSP with VLC but I just can't get it to work. The NVR says RTSP is enabled on port 554 but none of the combinations I've tried work. Does anyone know how to get this working?pic [link] [comments] |
