Best Camera System for a Small Apartment?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:10 AM PST

I live in a small apartment. The apartment complex has good security, but I am concerned about the maintenance staff.

What I would like to get is a mid-priced camera system with the following features:

    1. Wireless and easy to install, since I am renting
    2. 2 Camera units
    3. Motion activation/alerts
    4. Ability to view remotely

    I don't need 3rd party monitoring.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated!

    Amcrest Doorbell requires internet connection?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 04:54 PM PST

Anyone here using the amcrest doorbell? I've read in this post and several amazon reviews that it won't work without an internet connection. amcrest support told me that it will work on a local network without internet connection.

    So, who is right here?

How to decide placement of outdoor PoE cameras?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:17 AM PST

Imagine a typical rectangular house. Standard grass yard goes around the entire house. Say I want to ensure that all of the yard is covered by cameras. Do you place one camera at each of the four corners covering that yard? Do you place 2 cameras on 2 corners (kitty corner), this seems like it would save time running cat5.

I also want to focus on key entry points like the sliding glass back door and the front door porch area. So that's another 2 cameras.

So I should expect to buy about 6 cameras for outdoor coverage?

    Good NVR with Facial Recognition

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:18 AM PST

I'm looking for a decent NVR Software to run in house as a VM on my hosts that do Facial Recognition. Right now it's looking like Luxriot Evo with the Facial Recognition plugin is the biggest contender It's about $1,000 for the 16 Camera version and another $500 for the Facial Recognition plugin. Is there anything else I should consider, and free or cheaper ones out there? I haven't found anything consumer-oriented or open-source that can do this. I was hoping I could find a plugin that wasn't too expensive for Milestones XP Protect Esstensials+ (which is free for 8 cameras and meets my needs otherwise) but I didn't find any.

Decent Quality inexpensive Wifi cameras that work with Blue Iris?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:39 AM PST

    As the title says.

My cameras are way dated, still using some old wireless Foscam 640 cameras. Looking to upgrade. This is for my home. My Blue Iris version is still 3.x so a bit older too, may need to upgrade? Some nice not to too expensive 720p or 1080p cams will suffice. TIA.

I'm deciding between Simplisafe and Abode but have some questions about their respective vulnerabilities.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 05:59 PM PST

We've all heard of the jamming flaw of the wireless DIY alarm systems like Simplisafe and Abode, but how do the jamming alerts work for each system?

Also, can a burglar hypothetically cut the internet cable outside and disarm Abode since it needs the internet to function?

If Simplisafe is 4G, does it just connect to an already existing network like Verizon?

Lastly, for the jamming, can a burglar use one jammer and just try different frequencies at each house, or is this all hardware-specific- what I mean is that would he need to know what house has what before and have the jamming hardware already configured beforehand?

Sorry for the basic questions. I'm very new to this
