Looking for recommendations for indoor home security camera (or audio recording device)

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 08:30 PM PST

I've been experiencing some really frustrating neighbor issues in my home and I'm hoping to capture some of the issues using an indoor home security camera with audio recording. What I didn't realize about the current camera I installed, is that it only records/saves small clips if and when a loud enough noise is detected. I'm wondering if there is a security camera with decent audio recording (or audio-only recording device) that records continuously so I can look back at the recording later. I'm fine if the recording deletes after a period of time if not saved, but just wondering if there is a good option out there that fits the bill. Fine with wired or wireless.

    Possible EZVIZ security flaw?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 04:34 PM PST

I recently installed the EZVIZ Studio application on my desktop and for some reason the profile name and non-existent profile image are a bit of a concern. I never created that name "azquta" that you see on the top right. But everytime I login to the program, that's the profile that everything is under and there's no way of changing it, which makes me believe that these cameras can potentially all be controlled by said user profile. Anyone else experience this or wondering?

    Help wiring PoE camera

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 09:35 PM PST

I've got all of my cameras wired up except 2. The last two are in the furthest corner of the house/attic and I can't really get within 10-15 ft of that corner inside the attic. I cannot seem to get the fish tape from the outside, in. It just keeps hitting things in the tight area and my partner in the attic is not see any signs of the fish tape coming through. Any tricks or thoughts on getting these last two cameras wires?

IQ Panel 2 glass break false alarm

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST

Yesterday, my wife and I were out for a few minutes and had our system in armed-away mode. Normally, our system is disarmed by blue-tooth via our phones when we return, but since we were gone less than 10 minutes it didn't disarm it when we got close. I knew when we opened the door, we would have 30 seconds to disarm our system via the panel, but what we were not expecting was the second we opened the door the alarm went off. After disarming it, I saw that it was triggered by the glass break sensor in the panel. The only sound would have been us opening the front door and I didn't open it any differently than normal (slam, bang, etc).

This may or may not have had any impact on the above: Normally, we only use the arm-stay feature when going to bed. Our system is disarmed when we are home otherwise. Because of this, I changed the panel's built in glass break sensor from "Away Only" to "Stay and Away" since we want it on when we are asleep. This by default changes the panel's glass break sensitivity from "normal" to "low." I guess the logic is that normal home activity may trigger a false alarm so they default lower the sensitivity. Other than this change, we have not made any other changes to our system.

Was this just a random false alarm or was it something because of what I changed? Do I need to calibrate the panel's glass break sensor at all since we made a change? We've only had this system for about 2 months.

    Thanks.

Hi everyone I'm looking for a recommendation on outdoor security cameras

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 06:04 PM PST

I'm looking for cameras that will connect via wifi and that will record to an SD card that I can view on either an app or a website. My budget is 100 CAD. Thanks in advance!

    EZVIZ CX3 or Reolink 810A

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 09:38 AM PST

    Hi all

I'm looking into buying a security camera for my mother's backyard. She lives alone in a high crime area and I'm quite worried about someone trying to break in. Just the other month I caught someone trying to case the houses from the alley behind her and her neighbour's backyards.

I've fitted a burglar alarm to the house but I also want a camera covering the backyard. I'm looking for something with AI Person Detection, so if someone comes into the backyard then I can be alerted. The area I need to cover will be a range of about 45 ft from where the camera will be placed.

I quite like the CX3 but I'm having trouble with it doing human detection at that kind of distance at night. What I really do like about it is the siren function where it will go off if it detects movement, and hopefully scare away an intruder because he gets to the backdoor. This covers the situation incase someone tries to break in and I don't see the alert on my phone or something. The image isn't the best either, though it's decentish at 1080p.

The other camera I've found is the Reolink 810A which also does similar. Except it doesn't have colour night vision and doesn't have a siren. But it does have AI Person Detection and is 4k, so allows identification. I've read that the Reolink is compatible with Google Home and Alexa, so I'm wondering if I could hook it up with my smart alarm (Yale) so if it detects motion, the Yale alarm goes off.

What are people's experiences with these two cameras (especially at night) and which would you opt for? The big thing for me is human detection range at night.

I'd really appreciate any help at all from you all. Blue Iris and stuff like that isn't an option for us - I'm just looking for a smart camera that does the job. If you can recommend any alternatives, I'd be really grateful too.

    Security camera ecosystems

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 09:23 AM PST

Been thinking about installing a couple outdoor security cameras. Probably POE type.

Cant figure out what ecosystem to use. Here's what I already have:

    1. Alarm.com based alarm system with a couple connected lights and sensors.
    2. Nest thermostat (used to be connected to Alarm.com, but not since Google bought Nest).
    3. Synology NAS (DS920+) with plenty of unused storage space.

I'd like to be able to use the Alarm.com app to monitor camera footage and integrate notifications, but that would seem to require purchasing from a fairly limited list of compatible cameras, and I'm not seeing a way to integrate storage on the Synology, which seems a waste.

Synology Surveillance Station is the other obvious solution, but would be one more thing to maintain. This would also entail opening up a network port to the outside (to enable remote viewing), which I'm not a huge fan of.

    Suggestions?

Hik 7608ni only recording in 720p?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 08:37 AM PST

So sort of new to configuring these still, but have had this NVR up and running for about 2 days now. When I look under Image>Video/Audio, the only resolution option it gives me on the 5442TM camera is 720P. I also see this with the 2431T camera I have.

I know when I set the camera up I set it for H265 2688x1520 and when I look at the main view in iVMS-4200 it also shows it at this resolution up at the top right corner. Any suggestions for things to check? I am guessing it is probably some simple setting I am overlooking.

My review of the Amcrest (AWC201-B) 1080P USB Webcam with Microphone & Privacy Cover

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 06:58 AM PST

Great webcam that was super easy to setup; worked with any Zoom type software I've tried it on so far with no problems. I love the fact that it has a physical privacy cover so you can be certain no one is spying on you when you don't intend to be on the webcan.

Camera suggestion slim and shallow like a doorbell camera minus doorbell

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 06:56 AM PST

I have seen these doorbell cameras become popular and I like the idea of a camera by the doorbell, but I don't want a all in one set up. Is there anything small I can put above my regular doorbell that's just a small camera?
