Posted: 17 Jan 2021 05:14 PM PST It made the rounds in the reddit homepage several times in the past couple years, but I just cant seem to find it now! It was a single guy, on a single door that was setup in different ways for each video, and sometimes he'd bring in a second guy who had more expertise in a specific "exploit". Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks in advance! It has been found, thank you everyone! [link] [comments] |
Indoor security cam with battery backup and no wifi Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:10 PM PST Hey all, I'm looking for recommendations for an indoor security cam - I've looked all over but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for at a reasonable price (less than $60 US)
Here's why: My landlord and his roommate are untrustworthy. Either could easily get into my apartment and I think it'd be easy for them to get around my Wyze cam. All they'd have to do is turn the power off at the fuse box and unplug the modem (we share Wi-Fi) - the cam would be off and even with battery backup there would be no wi-fi and I see most cams require wi-fi to work. It sounds simple but all the ones I see on Amazon say they need the wifi connection or they're DVR, or are very costly. Any recommendations? Other then moving that is... [link] [comments] |
Reolink vs Amcrest? Best PoE no subscription camera? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 08:21 PM PST I'm building an outside security camera network. Already have the PoE switch, just need the cameras and to run the cat6 cable. Amcrest and Reolink both make good PoE cameras that do not have a subscription fee where I can record to my own hard drives for free. Which one is better for the money? Specifically these comparisons:
I'm not concerned about Reolink being from China. I'm blocking all outbound traffic on my router no matter which camera I buy. So no security issues should come up (i.e. sending data to China) I have two 8 TB drives attached to a Win 10 server that I was going to use to save footage to. Not sure how easy it is to setup either one. I'm looking at six cameras right now (four outside and two inside). [link] [comments] |
Suggestions for a cellular security camera with wired power Posted: 17 Jan 2021 06:19 PM PST I need a cellular security camera that DOESN'T have a rechargeable battery. It seems like the only ones I can find are brands I don't know. So looking for any suggestions you might have please. [link] [comments] |
What should I look out for when buying a combination lock metal briefcase? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 05:37 PM PST I want to buy a locking metal briefcase from Amazon, but I don't want to waste my money on something that will break in 3 months. It should be sturdy enough that a person can't break it open with common household items/ tools. What brands/ models do you recommend? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jan 2021 05:34 PM PST Titles basically says it all. I can't use a dowel to block the door since it's backwards, or install anything permanent without my landlord losing her shit. Everything I've seen online looks difficult to install (I'm not handy) or permanent. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
How secure is it to have Wi-Fi based home security? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 05:56 AM PST I am considering buying a home security system with motion sensors, switches for windows and cameras. All of these are connected with Wi-Fi, and you check each sensor through an app. As the title says how safe is such a system? Does it depend on the company I am buying from and how secure their servers are? I have already read some horror stories from other companies. In reality all I want is:
So maybe all of this with Wi-Fi is overkill, perhaps above could be achieved some other way, fx. bluetooth? [link] [comments] |
Can I link a "Connect2Go" alarm system with Google Home? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 11:07 AM PST We have a home alarm system that we can control with the "Connect2Go" app on Android. I would like to be able to arm the system with voice using Google Home. Is it possible to link the two? Also, a related but separate question, once connected, what is the best way to use it to disarm the system? I'm not sure if simple saying "Ok, Google, disarm my alarm" is a safe option. Or even possible. The mobile app can arm with one press, but you need to enter the code to disarm. Thank you in advance for any help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jan 2021 07:26 AM PST Hi, does anyone know if I can get a different brand security camera to work with the hive hub? I have hive home heating hub. Maybe I'm better off getting a separate system? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jan 2021 07:00 AM PST Looking for a video doorbell, I was originally going to mount a bullet camera but unfortunately it broke so thinking of doing the doorbell instead. A few things I am looking for, I would like it to use the existing chime NO subscription required to view video history Work with Blueiris if possible, if the device can store locally or has an app that stores 1-3 days of recording that would work as well. Uses existing doorbell wiring - NOT battery Realtime alerts to multiple phones Configurable recording options, I saw some that won't detect pets thus won't record, but I would like to record 100% of the time if it works with blueiris, or at least take pictures or do 10-20 seconds recordings when motion is detected. Ideally around $100...seems like I may be asking a lot for $100 after my list, but if it can't do that I will probably just get another bullet camera. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Do Alarms deter burglary? If so, in what way? Posted: 17 Jan 2021 04:56 AM PST New house. Seemingly nice area. Do alarms keep someone from breaking in? My hubby says yes? So, they see the cameras and alarm sign and move on. Has anyone had a break in or attempted break in with a alarm? Trying to understand! Thx! [link] [comments] |
