Raspberry Pi survillance: MotionEyeOS vs FTP

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 09:17 AM PST

I have 3 IP cameras: 2 PoE + 1 wireless. I tried running them all on a PC with MotionEye, works fine. Although motion eye takes up 60% CPU. To make it cost effective and compact, I'm thinking of moving it to a Raspberry PI.

Can a raspi handle such processing? If so which version should I buy?

The PoE cameras can directly store motion detected videos to an FTP server. So, as an alternative I can also use the PI as an FTP server for the cameras. Can it handle such load?

Which option is stable, reliable and less maintenance?

Help with cameras that pick up on movement and record to storage...

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 04:06 PM PST

Have a house family is moving into but we won't have wifi there for a week or so. But we need to get cameras there recording motion before that as there's a crack head who likes to come around, try and break in and steal what he can from the inside. Changed the locks and all that but he'll sit out back and burn stuff at odd hours. Tried to catch him there but no luck. Anyway we are hoping to get cameras pointed from windows inside looking out. Is there a camera with good picture that can pickup motion from the other side of a window? We have some old cell phones we can activate to help with a hot spot/service, hoping to have cameras pick up movement and send video to a cloud (or where ever for saving) while alerting a phone (app or whatever) Is there cameras we can use for this? Or an app service we can use or build our own? Not trying to use something like ADT.

Need indoor cameras for unique reason

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 03:17 PM PST

I don't need security or anything like that, I have a mouse problem in my apartment and I want camera setup in specific spots to catch where they are coming from at night. I've patched every hole I can find and we still have a problem here and there.. Not looking to spend a lot, probably need two cameras continuous recording, good night vision and if it's on a stand that can angled downward or in different positions would help

Are Burglar Alarm Systems Effective If Living In Crowded Urban Neighborhood?

The side exterior walls of my home touch other properties. It's possible for someone to walk from one roof to the next and jump over the back fence from an alley.

Weighing the pros of having this for the roof and back in addition to POE sec cams when not home. A local security vendor provides this along with 24/7 monitoring.

Looking for non-Amcrest NVR solution for Amcrest camera environment

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 10:09 AM PST

    Hello world

Looking to give up on the NV4116E-HS I have for several reasons, mostly I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to reliably keep all of the cameras recording. I've set static IPs on both the camera and router side and the NVR inevitably loses connectivity with some of the cameras over time and thus no recording... On top of that there's no more firmware upgrade support for this model, and the software is truly clunky. Also, the new AI cameras don't seem to play well with the older apps and NVRs.

It seems like since even Amcrest resells the Blue Iris software that may be the most logical choice for a non-Amcrest replacement. What has your experience been with either Blue Iris or has anyone found a good NVR solution for an Amcrest camera environment?
