[Question] Is it possible to read video files of a removed Night Owl hard drive?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:36 AM PST

My work was broken into last week and my boss forgot his password for the dvr, so he can't go back and look at one of the feeds that overs a point of entry the robbers used. We tried going to the website but they dont offer support for models over 2 years old and he tried to recover password using an email and that didn't work either. So at this point, unless there is some encryption on the drive, I was curious if i could remove the drive, connect it to a computer or in an external case and just read the saved video files from there. Many thanks in advance.

    Recommendation for CCTV system

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:25 PM PST

I'm looking for a system of 5-6 outdoor cameras for my home. I have POE ports that can use IP cameras. I'm thinking of Amcrest outdoor cameras. Since there are lots of options out there, I get quite overwhelmed with the options like NVR, Blue Iris, or no NVR. But here are my needs for the system. Please help a newbie out.

    • record 24/7
    • no subscription fee
    • send notification when motion detected (at home and away). Better if there is no false alarm.
    • real time view from app (at home and away)
    • integrate with smart devices like Echo, Google devices is a plus, but not required as I can use the phone app.

    Thanks in advance.

    ADT sensor compatibility

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 08:53 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I had ADT for far too long and now they want to perform a mandatory 3G update with an in person service visit during a pandemic. Time to ditch them.

I have ~40 wireless widow/door sensors and their motion sensors, all from DSC I believe. Are there any monitored DIY systems out there like e.g. Simplysafe that would pair with those sensors

SightHound Video & Mac OS Big Sur

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 02:50 PM PST

I upgraded my mac to Big Sur and did not read the SightHound Video posts first ... then downloaded SightHound 7 beta. However, that program does not start on my mac. No error message, just doesn't fire up.

Anyone with similar issues? Any help appreciated !

Any 2k outdoor camera with free cloud history (like Arlo Pro 2)

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:26 AM PST

I currently have the Arlo Pro 2 (1080p) which comes with a basic 7-day cloud history, meaning that I can review motion for 7 days FOR FREE.

The Arlo Pro 3 (2k) no longer comes with the free history and now you have to pay a stupid subscription of $10/mo. Albeit you get 30-days with zone/alert customization, but that's not really what I want.

Is there ANY 2k camera that comes with free cloud? It's even fine if it's only 24 hours or less. I just don't want to be forced to pay for a subscription once the trial period ends.

(Also I'm not looking for a local-storage system, I like the convenience of a smart app)

    Little elf cameras

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:23 AM PST

Hey, so I have just purchased these cameras (they arrive tomorrow) after having my bin stolen and window smashed.

    Link for camera: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089DDXV1W/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_fabc_dlT1_ze52FbN3CCXAS

My question is, can I make it so these store onto a hard drive? I've bought SD cards to go with them, but would rather they are a just in case thing.
