    Nextalarm went out of business!?

When did this happen? Just noticed alarm is giving communication errors. At first I thought it's AT&T's unreliable phone service.

Building a motion activated, battery powered IR illuminator, Part 3

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 04:58 PM PST

TL;DR - I documented the entire experience, instructions for all of this are located here: https://nullsec.us/battery-powered-ir-illuminator/

I've spent some time searching for an additional IR illuminator to supplement my security cameras. The only thing that matches this description is the Brinno APL200. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced, and where I have been able to find it still in stock, it is prohibitively expensive ($100 USD range). While surfing on Amazon though, I came across something similar enough that I originally thought they may have reused the same plastic body molds, and possibly the same circuit boards. This turned out not to be the case, but it still works.

Here's a sample of what it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUfV4RDKDRk - This is taking from a Ubiquiti G3 Flex with it's own IR light enabled.

Simple camera (and maybe alarm) system for my mother-in-law?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 10:42 PM PST

My mother-in-law wanted some security for her house, and we thought we'd start simple, based on some cursory Amazon shopping, I got her a Yi camera system, which has been wildly buggy and over-sensitive to movement triggers (passing headlights set of the "human detected" alert), so it's time to upgrade, but I don't really know where to start. Figured I'd ask Reddit.

All she really needs is at least 2 cameras with onboard storage (anyone trying to enter the ouse would have pass through the porch or driveway) that can hopefully tell the difference between human figures and other movement, maybe a doorbell cam, and maybe a couple door sensors (although she has a pretty solid gate on her front door), all of which could be monitored from an app that won't confuse a 70-year-old, and can remotely access the cameras' memory. The cameras could be outdoor cameras, but we could also set them in windows facing the porch and driveway and save on installation.

She has promo offers from ADT and AAA SmartHome, but my feeling is that a subscription monitoring service isn't really necessary — although we haven't ruled that out.

Would love to hear some thoughts on the subject.

Recommendation for outdoor cameras with Xfinity Xb6 or Xb7 modem/router combo?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 11:10 AM PST

    Hello All,

Anyone have this xfinity modem model xb6 or xb7? its their newer model. I currently have blink outdoor camera with sync module 2. I cannot connect and seems like alot of people having same problem.

Is there any brand that does work with this modem? I would like wireless.

    Thanks,

Found 3 tree branches in front of my door

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 01:38 PM PST

I went out today, when I came back to my flat there where three branches in front of the door. There's no way they could get in there without someone doing it. They were laying on the floor, they are pretty big, two of them where crossed, I guess it's one of those marks left by criminals, at the same time I am pretty confused because it is really evident. I'm really concerned, idk what should I do, I just moved in like 2 months ago, and this would also be the worst time to get someone breaking into my home
