What is the ultimate design in home defence and how realistic is it? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 03:56 AM PST Pretty much the same as the title. I'm curious what things everyone would put into their property to secure the property while still allowing them to live a good life and not appear to be a mad man. Here's my pitch:
If I make any adjustments based on feedback or questions I'll make it after this point:

Gang/Auto Theft/Kids Vandalizing heavy neighborhood, suggestions for my home? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 01:06 AM PST I post here every so often. The crime rate in my town, specifically my neighborhood continues to climb. I'm hoping its mostly in result to covid. Up tonight listening to full clips being unloaded and speedy driving. I'm on the "neighbors" app and its confirmed, others up and worried about it also I see a lot of my neighbors with those home security signs in their yard, i have some fake stickers on my windows as well but no actual monitoring system. I have a couple of blink cams and battery operated motion lights right now, but not much else. Theres a fair amount of chatter on the local crime watch groups involving my area along with cam footage. Considering placing some solar lights around my house shining onto the in between windows spaces on the house and on the trees. Anything wired isnt a good option because no outlets outside the house and the attic is in poor condition. Garage isnt reinforced, but our garage door is a good fireproof one we keep double locked. Had to change the layout of the house since we needed an extra bedroom, we have the back deck sliding door right in the bedroom. Considering the strengthening film, any other ways to reinforce it? I live with two military men, both who have guns so we are fine there. Im not as much worried about someone breaking in (seems to happen to people involved with those individuals initially), more just helping reduce suspicious people outside. I heard a woman outside screaming the other night and i know it wasnt just me because my cats were looking in that direction, too, and the day I found someone laying in my neighbors front yard as i was pulling out of my drive for work stick with me. I work very close to my home and we have increased precautions at my work place for gang related situations and theft. My goal is i can help improve the quality of our perceived neighborhood watch group. Any ideas or suggestions on things to make us look more or feel more safe? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 Dec 2020 10:26 PM PST My home's set up is an alarm system (glass break and basic entry sensors on all doors/windows), a German Shepherd, a medium sized dog, and a Ruger SR9/flash light. We also have a panic button for the alarm system next to our bed that will trigger the alarm and notify the authorities for if the alarm isn't triggered automatically. My plan of action is to have the alarm or dogs be the early notification that something is up. If something is wrong my girlfriend can hit the panic button and I can grab the Ruger from my bedside and assess/clear the house. My question is lights... what are some opinions on if it's better to clear the house with all the lights off or all the lights on? Right now I have the ability for all my smart lights to turn on to 100% brightness if the alarm goes off and/or when the panic button is hit but I'm hesitant to enable it since it could give the intruder an advantage. I haven't done any real research on home defense to even know if "clearing the house" is a good idea, let alone whether lights should be on or off in case of a break in. What's y'all's opinion? Building a motion activated, battery powered IR illuminator, Part 3 Posted: 18 Dec 2020 04:56 PM PST TL;DR - I documented the entire experience, instructions for all of this are located here: https://nullsec.us/battery-powered-ir-illuminator/ I've spent some time searching for an additional IR illuminator to supplement my security cameras. The only thing that matches this description is the Brinno APL200. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced, and where I have been able to find it still in stock, it is prohibitively expensive ($100 USD range). While surfing on Amazon though, I came across something similar enough that I originally thought they may have reused the same plastic body molds, and possibly the same circuit boards. This turned out not to be the case, but it still works. Here's a sample of what it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUfV4RDKDRk - This is taking from a Ubiquiti G3 Flex with it's own IR light enabled. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Dec 2020 02:51 AM PST My friends and I all bought a new house together. We plan on getting new doors and windows anyway. So we all do care about home defense so we decided to run simulations on breaking into the house through various methods, and decided to do so at night because its more realistic that way. Well as I was kicking down the front door and one of my roommates was about to throw a rock through the window, and other was jumping the fence to the back, the police showed up. Apparently one of our Karen neighbors called the cops on us because her dumbass thought we were breaking into a house... like WTF. We were gonna repair the door and board up any broken windows. Does anyone have experience with checking your house's security flaws without your nosy and pesky neighbors calling the cops on you? We were not doing anything criminal and it was our property and we don't live in a HOA. Not sure why she called the cops. [link] [comments] |
