Help with front door camera to help catch/deter eggers

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 01:44 PM PST

Me and both of my neighbors are having troubles with an unknown person egging our homes a few times a year. After some years, it's starting to get annoying and when I was first thinking about getting a video doorbell, the video quality and detection options of those made me think that a normal security camera would be a better option to find out who is doing this. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I'm trying to choose between two camera's and am hoping that a Redditor with experience can help me out a bit and tell me if I'm on the right track.

The two camera's I'm interested in are:

Both are Hikvision, I like the 4K resolution, face detection with alarm/notification and pricing.

I'm tending towards the second one, but would the viewing angle on the Easy-IP one really be better? Is the 102-degree viewing angle right for my situation or would another type of camera be better?

    The situation:https://imgur.com/a/IN3kZQG

I've circled two spots that I think would be good for the camera. Is the 75% viewing angle enough to see the cars across the streets?

Hikvision has some security issues, so I'll be putting them in a separate VLAN.

Reolink RLC-520 with use on ISpy program help

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 09:36 AM PST

I am trying to set up a home security system and I got 4 of these Reolink RLC-520 cameras but they do not show up on Ispy program and apparently they are set up to only work with the Reolink program? Has anyone got it to work with the Ispy program and if so how?

    Thank youj

    House cameras

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 02:37 PM PST

Hello just stumbled upon this sub. So the other day something weird happened.. although it could have been nothing it was freaky. About 10 minutes after I left for my midnight shift that starts at 11pm my girlfriend said she heard someone walking up the porch and thought it was me forgetting something and looked out the blinds and it was a stranger. She never answered the door but he was asking if he could borrow money because he was stranded and she said she didn't have any then he left but she was freaked out. We live in a middle of a street and a gas station is at the end of it. But I would like to get a couple cameras for around the house. I have no idea how to wire stuff or operate them..not much of a hands on person but I can do some research on that...was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for one with decent picture quality and can record?

    ADT Command outdoor cameras

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 12:47 PM PST

Hello all, just a few months ago I had ADT command and control installed. For the most part… It is pretty good. However, I continue to have issues with my outdoor cameras (2 of them) where it will work perfect for about a month and then it will just stop detecting motion roughly 90% of the time... Which means it does not record clips. I can literally go stand out in front of it and wave for five minutes straight and not register anything. I could do that 10 times in a row and 1 of those 10 times it will detect motion and record a clip.

I have had ADT out to take a look and they factory restored them both which worked again for about another month… But then the issue came back. If I unplug them and re-plug them in myself, that will fix it again temporarily, but then I am right back to square one again after a few more weeks it just stops again. Before I call ADT again to get them back out to hopefully swap out both cameras (the fact that I am having an issue with BOTH seems too coincidental though so seems more software related), I wanted to check with the community here to see if anyone else has had this issue. Any fix? I am not over my clip limit FYI. Well below in fact.

    Thanks!

    Apartment safe

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:43 AM PST

I'm looking into getting a safe for my apartment, I currently have a safety deposit box with a bank but it doesn't offer an protection against the goods in the box getting damaged. So I thought an apartment safe with rental insurance mite be a better bet. I live alone but encase of break ins or files I'd like to have a safe to store money, personal items and handguns. I did some research and do plan on bolting the safe to the wall. If you guys/gals have any suggestions for a good not to big about 3 or 4 feet tall safe around $300 I'd appreciate the input.

    annoying foscam question

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 06:13 AM PST

i joined this sub a couple of months ago and have been trying to get up to speed on cameras. but here i am asking a stupid foscam question. my gf's parents just moved into a house that has 3 foscam FI9928P wireless cameras mounted on the exterior. the previous owners had them connected to their main wifi network and used the foscam app to monitor remotely. i know that there are security concerns with foscam products and have searched this sub and on YT for info. i am still confused. what's the current thinking; can they be used safely and if so, what apps should they use and which settings need to be changed and where? should we make a separate wifi network just for the cameras? i'm sorry i know this is basic shit. thanks edited for grammar mistakes

Moved in to house with ADT equipment pre-installed. Any way to keep using without buying subscription?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 07:48 PM PST

I moved into a house with all ADT equipment installed. There are motion detectors, door sensors, remotes, key pads, etc. Is there any way to still use the equipment without buying their monthly subscription fee? If yes, how do I go about setting that up and what are the limitations?

Woke up thinking I was hearing my door being opened

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 12:06 AM PST

So idk if this is even a post that should be here but I need to get this off my mind.

I live in an apartment with my gf and child and tonight we were sleeping. Our master bedroom door was open as it always is. I was in a deep sleep having a very strange dream about me and 2 guys in my apartment running a trap house and trying to avoid the cops. (Okay, I know that weird af, I'm pretty white and would literally never do this but anyways) . So I'm in my dream and I start to wake up because we actually get arrested by the police and as im drifting back into wakeness, I hear what I believe is my back porch door opening. I say this because it has a very distinct loud noise it makes due to the dumb contractor painting over the doorway causing the paint to dry onto the door. For some reason, I get this extremely intense chill run down my spine and i shoot up to go check.

That's when it hit me. I need a fucking gun! I'm armed with literally nothing but my fist. If someone were breaking in which they weren't thank god. We'd be sitting ducks.

I've been telling my gf I want to buy a pistol for some time now and in typical "didn't grow up with guns, no reason to have them" fashion, she convinces me not to get one.

Well, I think tonight did it for me. I grew up in a family who kept more guns in the safe than Al Qaeda and I need a pistol. The thought of some POS creeping through my back door terrifies me.

Thanks for letting me rant. Don't know if it's even allowed here.

Peace! I'm going back to bed.
