    Home security: Home security cameras?

    Home security: Home security cameras?

    Home security cameras?

At first glance this probably looks like a post which prompts the response to use the search feature.

I have a Ring video doorbell and its totally fine for what it is. My issue is trying to find additional cameras that work as well for motion detection at a distance. The Ring doorbell goes by actual motion and has great range where as the Ring stick up cam and the Arlo Ultra 2 cameras after having tried both basically suck at this.

Does anyone out there have good recommendations on cameras with work as well as the Ring doorbell as my baseline for capturing motion events at a real distance?

Example comparing the Ring doorbell vs the Stick up cam

Edit... For reference in the clip it is the Ring door bell picking up motion pretty far away. When the Stick up cam finally activated I put the clips side by side to show how bad the Stick up cam is at this. The Stick up cam motion settings were cranked to 100% as well.

Best camera for watching health care professionals.

My mother has reached a point in life where she needs 24hr assistance at home. There will be a lot of people in and out. I'm looking for a good camera I can place maybe up in the corner of her room. Here are some of the features I feel are a must.

Ability to see the entire room (panoramic)

Ability to the camera off and on as needed

Ability to turn audio off and on as needed

Ability to let multiple family members view live feed

Ability to store locally (sd card)

I was looking into the Wyze panoramic cam but have a few bad things regarding cam being easily hacked.

Anyone willing to help and point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As long as I would be able to get the whole room in view I wouldn't have to have panoramic

    Home external security camera recommendation

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:35 PM PST

I'm looking for a camera and system for the following. I'm a computer guy, so running cables isn't a big deal. The overall budget is around $1000. I know the features we want, just I'm not familiar at all with security cameras or systems.

    Camera requirements:

    1. I only need one camera, not a system of 4 or 6 or whatever.
    2. The camera will be mounted outside. It will be on a wall roughly 10 feet above ground level and 10 feet below the eaves of the roof, so somewhat exposed. Temperature range of 0F to 100F.
    3. It will be on the front of the house, near the front door, so needs to look somewhat nice vs industrial. Painting the wires or mount so they blend in to the house better is an option when it's no longer winter.
    4. The camera needs to be angled/mounted so it can see the door and side of the house/front porch area. It being extended a foot or so from the house would be perfectly fine.
    5. Audio recording is not needed.
    6. PoE for the camera would be much preferred. I don't want to deal with batteries.
    7. MicroSD or local storage on the camera is not wanted.
    8. Night vision would be nice but is not necessary.

    System requirements:

    1. Be able to define a region to watch for motion in.
    2. When motion is detected, send an alert to 2 different Android phones. Having to install an app on each would not be a problem. If it only works when connected to the local wifi network, that's also fine.
    3. Face / object recognition is not needed. Only detecting motion in a region is needed.
    4. Local network storage of the video is required. It will not upload video to the cloud. However, if it needs to upload still pictures for an alert to be sent to the phones, that is ok.
    5. A monthly fee would be ok, but not preferred.

    Any suggestions?

ADT is active but I want to cancel the landline

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 11:46 AM PST

My ADT is getting terminated in 30 days. If I cancel my landline service with the phone company, will my ADT still be fine? I was wondering if it will keep beeping "no landline, please check" or something.

Can I go ahead and remove the landline?
