Looking for help, little to no experience, want to install a system as soon as I can. Posted: 05 Aug 2020 08:49 PM PDT Had a scary experience and want to be able to clearly identify anyone that comes onto my property. I want to install atleast four cameras to cover my property and my cars as well as any car that parks in front of my yard, maybe 100 feet away? I'd like to purchase something as soon as I can. I understand for something thats high quality comes a high price tag but I'm looking for honest recommendations, tips, and help from this community. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Please help me with the Gemini computerized security system Posted: 05 Aug 2020 02:27 PM PDT Bought a house last year, power went out yesterday and came back on....and bam, the Gemini system starts going off. We have not used it, don't have the code. I shut off the breaker and disconnected the battery, problem is breaker is connected to my fridge I. The garage and the garage door....it is a system from 20 years ago, I think the 800...I literally took the keypad off the wall and disconnected it and the alarm still goes off when I flip the breaker...any guidance is appreciated! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Need a quality 8ch wireless NVR for our home Posted: 05 Aug 2020 08:29 PM PDT Hi. We have a 10 year old security camera system in our home and the DVR has been broken for years and I am trying to find a good solution to hook up the 8 cameras to and be able to connect the DVR to our wireless network so we can access the cameras on our phones when we are away or at home. Any tips? Thanks, Griff [link] [comments] |

DSC PC1832 - continuous output on the bell circuit. Posted: 05 Aug 2020 05:09 PM PDT I have an 1832 and am adding a horn/strobe (system sensor). My vendor didn't have any 5xxx series power booster suprivised cards in stock so I'm just using a 12v power supply and a Altronix RB1224 Relay Module to power the horn strobe. When the fire alarm is tripped the bell output from the PC1832 is pulsed. Is there a setting to make the bell output remain on continuously during alarm? Thanks
The issue was that the bell output was pulsed. So the relay was opening and closing and intermittently powering my horn strobe. I could find no way to make the fire bell output continuous in programming. After experimenting, I set the PGM 1 definition to a system event (009-1 10) and set the system events for PGM 1 to monitor to Burglar (501-1 1) and Fire (501-2 1). When a monitored system event happens PGM 1 puts out a continuous 12v to the relay. So I just put a resistor across the bell output circuit (to clear the bell fault) and use the PGM 1 output to sound my alarm and strobe. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2020 11:08 AM PDT So, I bought the Eufy indoor cam 2k. I like everything about it, except for the fact that I can't turn off the ir lights and they are still doing there job. My kids say they keep them up at night...I'm looking for an alternative to the eufy but that will allow me to turn of the ir lights but they still light up the room...or any other options. Basically I don't want the ir lights to show but gives me the clarity of day at night. Anything like that? [link] [comments] |
Is my alarm likely to sound consistently? Posted: 05 Aug 2020 01:19 PM PDT Hi all, For background we're having our rooms plastered and needed to remove the PIRs from the corners of the walls. I couldn't reach the company who installed the system, so thought I could do this myself. So the main alarm obviously sounded, I pulled the mains fuse and the backup battery out from the main unit and am.hoping that should be the last I hear from it until I plug power back in? My theory being that if there's no power to the main unit and subsequently the PIRs, the external sounder can't receive a signal to say 'stop tampering I'm angry at you'. Is this correct? Or will the external alarm sound for its specified 20 minutes, shut off for an unknown period and then re-arm and re-sound again? Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2020 07:34 AM PDT I bought an almost 8000 square foot house with an existing security system that has enough problems that I've decided to just remove and replace it. Most of the area is ground level but about 1/4 of the square footage is a walk out basement, to give an idea of the layout. The floor plan is roughly T-shaped. It was built in the 60s and has double layer drywall everywhere. I have installed a ubiquiti UniFi network and I have excellent WiFi coverage everywhere in the house on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz in case that is relevant. I am installing ubiquiti bullet cameras. I have considered turning off the 2.4ghz band but I'd rather not as some devices still only use that and it works better outside around the yard. I have been hoping to use contact and vibration multi sensors on windows and sliders to eliminate the need for glass breaks. Given the area I need to cover and that my wife would like me to add some other smart devices here and there (locks, thermostats, switches, etc), I was looking at mostly z-wave plus devices. I'd also like to integrate professional monitoring. So here's my question for you guys. Given my scenario, is there a z-wave multi sensor that fits what I'm trying to do? The Samsung SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor (https://www.smartthings.com/products/smartthings-multipurpose-sensor) looks to be close to what I want but it's Zigbee. It'd be great if they made a z-wave version of this sensor. I was looking to avoid Zigbee because it operates in the 2.4 GHz band and I was afraid it could have range problems or interference issues with my UniFi network. Am I overthinking and Zigbee would work fine? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Need help finding a doorbell camera! Posted: 05 Aug 2020 11:29 AM PDT Is there a doorbell camera that has a setting to only record video when the doorbell is rung? My apartment complex is not allowing me to have motion-triggered video recording for the privacy of other residents. Also, there is no existing doorbell so the unit cannot be hard wired. Comparison of UniFi Protect and Synology Surveillance Station Posted: 05 Aug 2020 10:30 AM PDT I've been determining in what direction to go with an NVR. It seems like most of the appliances offered by camera makers aren't that great and the DIY options on Linux aren't that mature. I was originally planning on rolling out a UniFi solution, but it seems like their video products aren't super well-developed right now. Then I came across Synology Surveillance Station... Wow. Surveillance Station seems awesome and mature. This video really is helping to seal my opinion on the matter. [link] [comments] |
