| People are Casing my house, what should I do to secure my house? Posted: 22 May 2020 12:10 PM PDT We have had this happen before. I and my family live in the country outside of a nice little town. It's the type of place you would never consider a break in. The only problem is 20 minutes away is a slum, and the people who live there are known to go out of their town and break into houses. About a year ago, my mom heard 3 distinctive taps on her glass sliding door that led to the deck. She thought it was a raccoon. 3 days later, her purse was stolen and our van was taken. They had undone the lock downstairs on another sliding glass door with a screw driver. Just the other night, my mom AGAIN heard three distinctive taps on her sliding glass door. What do we do? What equipment should we get? We have let the police know, but they are on the level of Barney Fife. What should we do? [link] [comments] |

Wouldn't that like...kinda take away the intimidation of the alarm system if it stopped sounding off after a few minutes? Didn't the older alarm systems just go off constantly if they were triggered? I would like to preface this by saying I don't know anything about security cameras, and just a short while ago was considering Arlo Cameras. I am looking to install security cameras around my home, I will be using 2-4 cameras. I would like to have 24/7 access to a live stream from anywhere in the world, mobile app preferred, mobile access required. I am a huge privacy advocate and I do not want the company or any 3rd party affiliates to have access to my camera feeds, nor do I want anything like Ring's neighborhood bullshit app. I am looking for outdoor cameras and can withstand a lot of heat and some direct sunlight, and at least one camera would be placed in a low light area. Ideally would like the cammeras to be easily wired, have decent night vision, and decent image quality. I have done very minimal research and I am looking at Dahua and Hikvision. | Suggestions on a PoE security cam system under $250 Posted: 22 May 2020 05:22 PM PDT Trying to find a decent PoE security cam system with NVR (or local SD to cloud storage) and about 3-4 cameras to place on my house. Ideally, I would like something with a mobile app to get alerts / live feed as well and not run the power bill up like a regular desktop PC running 24/7. | Securing sliding glass screen doors Posted: 22 May 2020 03:01 PM PDT Howdy everyone Hope everyone is doing as best as can be during these trying times. We've had a rash of break ins in our neighborhood as of late and we are looking to bump up security due to this. We frequently keep our sliding glass doors open (with screens) to let in the air. Luckily we already have added a front door security screen door, so we are set there, but we are having a hard time finding security screen doors. Is there such a thing? Anyone have anything to recommend? We want to be able to keep the front door and both sliding glass doors open but want to feel and be secure with all three locked and secured with the type of material that can't be cut with a knife and is bolted to the frame.
