Suggestions on how to secure exterior outward swinging double doors? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:05 PM PDT I can't seem to find any particular product to help with this. It seems stupid to have these doors but where they are there isn't enough room for them to open inward. They're 15 pane glass doors so a latch guard to me seems pointless. I haven't messed around with the hinges to actually see how easy it would be to get the pins out but I will try soon. Seems kinda hopeless. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Outdoor cam for extreme cold with WiFi suggestions Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:38 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm looking for camera suggestions. I live in northern Canada and our winters get below -40, so it needs to be durable. I'll be buying only one or maybe two, so I don't need a whole system. It will be just for monitoring my driveway and vehicles, so no subscription just motion triggered captures to a local SD card would be best. I'd also like to avoid running cables to by router, so looking for something that's powered (no batteries, they'll die in no time with the cold) and has WiFi capabilities. I'm having a hard time finding powered and WiFi like the wyze cameras I use indoors. All suggestions are welcome and appreciated! [link] [comments] |
What do you think of this camera system? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 12:32 AM PDT Interested in getting wired cameras installed around the house. Thinking maybe 6-8 cameras to get full view of every angle. It's a 2 story 2700 sqf house. Don't know much about cameras but I had a friend recommend these so Interested if anyone can help with more info if good or not? https://www.ebay.com/itm/254558367665[link](https://www.ebay.com/itm/254558367665) [link] [comments] |
D-Link DCS-8000LH fails on binding?? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:15 PM PDT I had 2 of these working well for about a week. Then my wifi dropped out and while troubleshooting the issue with my ISP, I had to reconfigure my router. I tried to re-add them to the app, but I have had no success. I have reset them, reboot the router, deleted the app, created a new account, paired with QR and pin.. nothing. The weird thing is when I check my router for connected devices, I see it.. I have sent in a support request with D-Link, but thought I'd try my luck here. Any suggestions or anyone have the same issue? [link] [comments] |

Why is it so hard to find decent CCTV cameras Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:38 AM PDT Im trying to find more cameras like this http://www.123-cctv.com/outdoor-camera/exterior-ultra-pro-camera.html and this https://www.rugged-cctv.com/product/camera-with-night-vision/ My Environment: I live where it gets really cold (-40) and also gets really hot 95F (35C) there are sometimes torrential downpours with winds upto 60 MPH. Its really sunny in the summer, and foggy on some mornings and evenings. What Im looking for: Every google and ebay search is giving me those flimsy (cost 10$ to make) cameras that dont look like threatening nor look like theyll withstand the weather. [link] [comments] |
Buying a package vs build your own? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:49 AM PDT I've been wanting to install a security system, but as I research more, it seems best to build your own system as opposed to purchasing a package (e.g. I was thinking about a Lorex system from Costco). On the other hand, maybe my needs are simple enough that I'm overthinking this. I hope this is the right sub, but I'm wondering what the view here is. My needs: I'm looking for external cameras for three entry points. I'm primarily concerned about porch pirates and unwanted visitors. I can get PoE to the front and side entry points, but I don't think there is an easy way to get PoE to the back. If I can't hook up the back, it's not a deal breaker since my main concern is for the front entry points. For viewing/reviewing footage, I anticipate only reviewing footage if something happens, which I hope is rarely. Do I need to find a dedicated space in my house for a monitor and/or computer to view footage? Can I hook up to my TV as a separate input? Do any iPhone apps work well for reviewing footage? In general I dislike subscriptions, so I've not really been looking at cloud-based services. I'd rather buy and set up the system all upfront. If you have great experiences with cloud based subscription services Id love to hear them! Sorry for the rant, but would love some more knowledgeable perspectives. Any pointers on a system that would work? Or is this a BYO situation? [link] [comments] |
