Finding cameras after construction. Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:06 PM PST I am actually a new professional security installer but I've run into a snag on a job. The client has had a drop ceiling and other internal construction done to their office. The folks doing that construction either worked around two of the existing cameras, or moved them out of the way above the new ceilings. I found one of them still attached to the wall above the drop ceiling, but am having serious trouble finding the other. It is still plugged in, and shows a picture in a clearly dark area. I've tried shining a light around above the ceiling, and just brute force looking for it but no dice. Anyone have any tips that might help out? It's an analog camera by the way. Advice needed: Low upload bandwidth indoor cameras Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:38 PM PST Hi folks, I am looking for advice on indoor cameras but can't find all the information to make an informed decision. Here are my constraints - Nanny mode: When the nanny is at home I want to view the activities on-demand. However, I don't want the camera to upload continuously, when I am not watching - Safety mode: The typical mode where I want the camera to alert me when there is motion. However, here too I don't want the camera to upload continuously to the cloud when nothing is happening. From nest's help page, it seems like it uploads continuously to the cloud which is a deal breaker. [link] [comments]
My dead-bolted door being bashed in somehow didn’t break the frame Posted: 01 Mar 2020 02:14 PM PST I live in an apartment and last night some drunk guy burst through my door at like 1am. The deadbolt was engaged but somehow he pushed through the door without breaking the frame or anything. Does this mean the deadbolt isn't going far enough into frame? Thanks [link] [comments]

How do you store your camera footage? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:02 AM PST I want to get some high quality PoE cameras. I am ok with recording just motion triggers but my requirement is that it captures at least a few minutes (for example wyze records 12 seconds? Wtf is 12 seconds going to do for me if a burglary is taking place). Otherwise, I want to record constantly. Cloud storage or FTP storage is great except that my internet provider only offers a maximum upload speed of 5mbps which will not be adequate for the number of cameras I intend to have. Plus, I don't want to put constant strain on my network 24/7. That leaves me with local storage. But how? Internal HDD in my gaming PC? Network drive like a local cloud? Dedicated DVR/NVR device? Western digital makes some drives specifically for the wear and tear of video recording. [link] [comments]
