Cameras/systems that can capture license plates and people clearly

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:33 PM PDT

I am looking for a Camera system/setup that can capture license plates and people clearly.

I am in need of systems for two different locations with totally different situations.

1st- Large 1.5acre lot with 3 buildings with electricity, requires small cameras inside with the best pixel resolution possible, along with the best possible outside cameras to capture EVERYTHING that moves on the property.

2nd- Wooded 200+acre property with no buildings or electricity which needs to be monitored from trespassers, hunters/poachers, dumpers, etc.

    Vivint cancelation

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:45 PM PDT

My 70-year-old grandmother signed up for Vivint previously, she's moving into a nursing home currently and she cannot keep it on the home. She wanted to cancel but I can hear her on the phone and they are claiming she has to pay $1,000 to break their contract. I'm sure if she read that she would have said something at least, but none the less.

Has anyone else had an issue with them? Any way to get around it?

How do you reset an IP cam's username and login without actually pressing the reset button on the camera?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 01:50 PM PDT

I have some IP cams I bought on amazon from a seller named Andytech; the cameras were originally made by Dahua but renamed by the 3rd party seller. I can't remember the username or password I used before, is there any way I can reset the username and password without having to press the reset button on the camera?

Reolink or other CCTV IP NVR + cameras system

    RLK16-800B8 975euro or RLK16-410B8 575euro

I would like to setup a 8 camera home system.

I have been looking at both these systems.

I do not plan on using the app for my phone. I would like to set them up that I can view from my home computer, but not outside of my home internet network. I believe setting them up on their own loop is what would suit me best ( even though I dont yet know how to do this)

Considering the costs, the image during day and night and the proposed setup, are these good value. Could someone suggest an alternative.

    Thank you

    New Vivint service

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:27 AM PDT

Hi! We recently had Vivint installed. I have been having difficulty with notifications on my Android Samsung Galaxy S8 Active phone. I have the notifications and alarms set up fine from the Vivint app side, but when it comes to the phone side, it's all very messy. Viewing video/cameras puts my phone into "call mode" and unless I close out the app entirely every single time, my phone's clock alarms won't go off properly. Sometimes even closing the app out completely doesn't fix the issue and I have to restart my phone to clear that. Now, if I want to hear the doorbell on my phone, I have to have my media volume turned up to the max volume, which creates real issues during every day handling of my phone. I'll come across a video and it will blast the volume just because I need to hear my doorbell and I completely forgot how high my media volume was. If I want to speak to the person who just rang my doorbell, I have to turn the "in call volume" up to the max as even 3/4 volume will not work.

    Please help!

TL;DR This Vivint Smart Home app had taken over my phone and I need help controlling it! Sales person and install tech both have Apple products and no idea how to help with my Android.

    Please help!

    Camera system for SMALL business

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:08 PM PDT

    Hey all,

Sorry if this isn't the right sub but I've always found the advice here useful.

My wife is opening up a new business and I'm seeking advice for the camera system with these requirements:

Ease of use and reliability of app is #1

    IP Based

5 cameras all indoors: 4 need about 140* wide viewing angle

Ability to stream live video directly from cameras to TVs in lobby with high quality (2 of the cameras would stream to a TV of their own)

    Budget: around $1k

I've setup a 31 camera Ubiquiti system before and while it worked great, troubleshooting issues with the NVR was never very fun. Might prefer something more commercialized, maybe less flexible then, but reliable and easy to use for them.

Planning on putting in a Ring alarm system since their monitoring is so cheap.
