An inexpensive camera system for a farm?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 01:07 PM PDT

I'm glad to see there is a community on here for home security. Maybe some of you might have some good ideas on this one?

TL;DR. Family members' farm broken into. They need an inexpensive, non-internet based security camera system to cover a few acres.

So I have some family members who are very upset. They live in a town, twenty minutes away from their farm. Their farm has been broken into and robbed at least twice in the past year. They are retired and attend to it once or twice/day. It pains me to see how much of a toll it has taken on them. I really want to help them find an effective security system given their farm layout.

Their land is 100-ish acres, but the main area of concern is the entryway (a few acres). At the front, they have a locked gate (5' in height) and barbed wire fence around the farm. Just recently, someone clipped the fence right next to the gate, drove their pickup into the farm, and stole some equipment. They filed a report, and nothing has come of it yet.

For security, they've kept one self-contained, non-internet game camera set up on a tree. While it takes works for that area, it is far from being enough. I think they need 4-5 cameras. What kinds of solutions would you recommend? Also , the farm has no internet + they would prefer a budget of under $400 US. Thoughts? Thank you so much for any advice or wisdom on this one!

EDIT: I have been thinking they could set up a local WiFi network, then configure a few inexpensive digital cameras to one cheap laptop. The game camera is fine, but video would be much better. But again, they do not have internet on their farm. Hope this helps clarify things a bit!

What do I need as a security system for new construction?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:06 PM PDT

Might build a house in the country outside of a small city with average to low crime. I don't think we'll be intruded upon in our whole lives, but I would like to prepare.

I know I can get sensors everywhere and active monitoring and 80 cameras and 6 attack dogs, but I'm wondering what is practical, typical, or perhaps even economical.

I don't know anything about home security so I'm hoping someone can perhaps give me some guidance and recommend what sort of system would be sufficient.

    Safe ALARM? Or safe TRACKER?

    Posted: 02 May 2020 06:42 PM PDT

Is there any recommendation for a tilt/shock/g-force triggered battery operated alarm sensor that if a thief was to somehow manage to get a floor bolted safe out or while banging it, the alarm would go off? I know it would be inside the safe so would be muffled a good bit probably, but would be pretty good idea because that would draw too much unwanted attention to them.

Debated a GPS tracking device for inside, but couldn't really find anything on that either..
