Looking for a Motion Sensing Outdoor Light on a Switch Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:27 PM PDT As the title states, I had a similar setup in my last home and would like to do the same at my new home. There's currently a switched light on my garage that shines into my backyard, but I'd like to have a motion sensing light for when the dog is outside with the option to switch it on. Here's the real caveat, I want to try and shop at my local Ace Hardware and stay away from Amazon/Home Depot/Lowe's. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:23 PM PDT I have been reading different install tips, it seems that conduit is pretty common when it comes to siding. Is there any reason this is avoided with PoE? I have siding, and no access to an attic to run the wires through, thought this may be easier than running a conduit. Just curious on opinions of doing it this way. [link] [comments]

Which companies support an already installed Honeywell lyric? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:24 PM PDT Im looking to install a Honeywell lyric system for my house, but I need to find a monitoring company that supports already installed lyrics. Basically, I'm looking for a monitoring company that can provide me monitoring for my own system. I don't want anyone coming out to my house, I want a monitoring company I can activate on my own without professional installation. Thanks [link] [comments]
When and where are are homes vulnerable to invasion? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:08 AM PDT I've been trying to determine what our threat level is and where it is (in our home). We live in medium sized city in the Midwest. Typically, crimes in the neighborhood might include car break ins or burning leaves against code. I don't know anyone that has the same concerns about home safety as I do. I'm not panicked- but it's the one area with which I feel vulnerable. I'm open to the idea that there's is no reason to be overly concerned at this moment. I'm not particularly concerned with losing valuables but rather the collateral damage that could harm my kids if someone were to break in our home. I don't anticipate being violated by a calculated, sophisticated, burglar with self control but an individual that feels desperate, scared, and has nothing to lose. If, after months of no income and being locked in, people consider taking other people's things.....how will it manifest? If (IF!) my home is vulnerable to home invasion, how can I prepare for it now? 1. I cannot afford or set up a camera system at this time. 2. I have checked, repaired, and locked all windows. 3. I'm aware of planting sharp shrubs by windows but that does not help me in short term. 4. We have some outdoor lighting in the front but no electricity for lights in backyard. 5. We have a sliding door and I have a wooden bar that keeps door immovable 6. I'm concerned about windows. How often are home invasions possible because because of inferior windows? Thoughts? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:49 PM PDT Hey all, I've read through some threads and I'm trying to find the best security system for my home. There have been five break ins in the last two weeks and I promised my wife I'd get this done. We need two in the front and one at the back. So three cameras total. I'm not really sure what ones are top notch. Any help would be appreciated! Thank You! [link] [comments]
Looking for a simple, 1 unit standalone wifi-based camera with cloud storage Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:52 PM PDT Hi folks, I have an Arlo camera system around my house which captures just motion. Since I live on the corner of my street and a main st, I want to buy a camera that records continuously and save to the cloud for 2-3 weeks at a time. Some people have recommended Reolink, Wyze, or Blink. I was hoping the members here would be able to shed some light on what may be a decent solution for my use-case. The end goal is to catch cars that come in and out of the street as there were 2 separate occasions recently where construction workers/gardeners had their items stolen. Thanks in advance!
