Alarm panel on which side of door to garage Posted: 02 Mar 2020 01:16 AM PST We have an alarm panel in the garage next to the door going into the house. I think the builders put it there because there's not much room on the other side of the wall in the house next to the door going into the garage but I could get it to fit with some creativity. I've seen mixed messages online about whether it's better to keep the panel on the garage side of the door or the house side. I suppose if there's an intruder who is able to get into the garage, seeing the panel would put the person on notice of the alarm. On the other hand, there are more opportunities to try to deactivate the alarm without setting off the detection system (all the sensors are inside). Is there a best practice? There is a second panel in the house that is more accessible which we use to arm at night. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Advice needed: Low bandwidth indoor cameras Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:39 PM PST Hi folks, I am looking for advice on indoor cameras but can't find all the information to make an informed decision. Here are my constraints - Nanny mode: When the nanny is at home I want to view the activities on-demand. However, I don't want the camera to upload continuously, when I am not watching - Safety mode: The typical mode where I want the camera to alert me when there is motion. However, here too I don't want the camera to upload continuously to the cloud when nothing is happening. From nest's help page, it seems like it uploads continuously to the cloud which is a deal breaker. [link] [comments] |
Can you use 8 simplisafe, for 8 different customers off 1 network? (storage units) Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:23 PM PST I am finishing up 8x 1000 sq ft storage units and would like to put 8 security cameras in each unit (or on the outside of each unit) for the tenants- (maybe charge $10 more a month) I have 1 Century Link DSL line coming into the building- Can 8 SimpliSafe or nest or Ring. I think for $15 a month Simplesafe will monitor off a Cellular? Maybe this is the best course so I do not have to be the IT guy as well. Any suggestions? The less work and simpler solution is what I am looking for. These units are 22.5 x 45' long and I am trying to attract contractors who need to store their tools, vehicles- I think this is a step above units without security. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:19 PM PST Hey guys, I currently work and live on a small (legal) farm in California and am trying to setup a security camera system to replace the current one, as we are undergoing an expansion.I'll explain what I'm looking for and my thinking, so hopefully you guys can sanity check me and give me some recommendations. It's a cannabis farm, which means that during certain times of the year, there is a concern that we will be vulnerable (or perceived to be) to theft. Employee theft is a concern, but so is the possibility of armed intruders looking to make a quick buck (think backwoods bank heist). Alongside other precautions, we will be hiring an armed security guard for the highest risk time periods and most or all of our high value product will be contracted out and processed off-site. So mainly, I want recommendations on a camera system. Hopefully this gives an idea on the situation. The area is extremely rural, with only satellite internet. This makes purely cloud based systems impossible. The area that needs monitoring is also quite large and is comprised of indoor and outdoor areas, so I'm thinking we will need some high resolution cameras see detail at long distance. (4k?)I don't know if its reasonable to expect ai systems for a small business, but if the system can generate something like incident reports and alerts for things like cars or people outside a certain time that would be ideal. I'm hoping to spend less than 5k once all's said and done, including installation costs. Any input on types of systems, keywords I should keep an eye out for brands etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edit: Some details [link] [comments] |
Sercomm OC432 PoE outdoor cameras sd card slot. Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:00 PM PST Does anyone have any experience with the ATT home security cameras? I am trying to figure out how to insert some sd cards that I have but couldn't find the slot for them. I saw on the firmware when accessing it that there is a record to sd card function.
