Handgun recommendation for new permit holder for home protection

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:41 PM PST

Hi, I recently got my handgun permit but I didn't really think I need to buy a gun soon. It was more thinking ahead...but after the riot I don't know what can happen in the future so I want to protect myself in my new house and I live not too far from DC.

What are the brands and models that are best for beginners in the rare case that I have to protect myself? Btw no children in the household.

    Thanks!

Solar powered wifi cameras for the frozen north

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:47 AM PST

I live near the Canadian border where winters can get down to -30f each year. I'm hoping one of you fine people can recommend a wifi camera with solar power that can hold up to that extreme cold. The ones ive found on amazon seem to be hit or miss with the cold depending on the reviewer. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

Talk me out of upgrading my home defense shotgun

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 09:10 AM PST

My primary HD firearm is a Rem 870 Express Tactical on sale a few years back. I have outfitted it with magpul furniture and a light. It has always been solid at the range, no problems other than the occasional short stroke on my part but it is a bit rickety and the finish blows. I think it is a mental thing for me, but I am just not 100% confident in the thing.

Local shop has a Beretta 1301 Tactical for $1100 I have been eyeballing hard. Is that not a considerable upgrade or am I crazy?

Front door strike plate screws not hitting the studs (3" screws)

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 08:34 PM PST

Hey I'm looking to cover all of the basics with the first one being 3" screws in the front door deadbolt strike plate. Today I removed the old screws and replaced with the long ones. The top screw felt like it grabbed onto something, but the bottom one didn't grab onto anything and just kept spinning.

I looked in with a flashlight, and it looks like the holes are lined up such that they are just missing the stud. As a temporary fix I just shoved some toothpicks in there so I could get the bottom screw to grab.

I'm wondering how I'd fix this. I was thinking to maybe try drilling a 3rd hold in the strike plate that is between the 2 current holes but a little further towards the stud...

I'm not sure what the best thing to do here is. I'm sure someone here has encountered this same problem. If so, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!
