Home security: DSC PC1832 Low Zone Bats

Home security: DSC PC1832 Low Zone Bats

    DSC PC1832 Low Zone Bats

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:00 AM PST

A warning light came on my dsc keypads. So, I went ahead and replaced the 4Ah battery in the main control unit (DSC PC1832). However, after waiting a day, the warning light is still on. When I press *2 it displays low zone bats. Then, I press * to view the zones with low battery and it displays Z2 Frontdoor and Z3 Garage. I looked at both the frontdoor and the garage door; however, both of the sensors look to be hardwired in. So, I'm a bit confused. Does anyone have any ideas?

As far as sensors / hardware I have:

    2 - keypads

    1 - motion sensor

    1 - main control unit (DSC PC1832)

    2 - door sensors

    1 - cellular communicator

Motion sensor to existing spot lights

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:37 PM PST

I recently installed a driveway gate and had an electrician trench some spotlights to various locations as well as two sconces on the gate. As of right now, the only way to turn on the lights is by flipping the respective breakers. I was wondering what the easiest way to install motion sensors so once one is tripped, all of the lights turn on assuming I have a switch installed. I currently have a home solutions company looking at it and they want to install a MIER drive alert system with a light kit. I currently use that system in my house but seems like overkill for just a few lights.

Outdoor POE Cameras similar in form factor to Google nest Outdoor Cameras?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 06:28 PM PST

Just as the title, I am looking to set up my own home CCTV camera solution with local storage. I like the size and shape of the Google nest outdoor cameras but not a fan of the subscription payments.

What are the best wireless cameras with limited upload speed?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 10:05 PM PST

I need at least 3 cameras but the most upload speed I can get from my provider is 12mbps without upgrading to an overly expensive package. I have Blue by ADT but after having some problems, one of the techs told me that in his experience, each camera needs at least 6mbps to be reliable (they advertise 2mbps).

Configuring Blue by ADT cameras to switch settings during day and night?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 09:47 PM PST

I have Blue by ADT wireless battery operated cameras. One of my cameras does really well detecting motion of people during the day but not very well at night. I was wondering if I could configure the camera to switch from detecting "people" to detecting "motion" at a certain time?

Right now, I'm just switching from the settings from detecting people to motion once the sun sets but sometimes I forget. So I was just wondering if I could automate this.

    Small business camera system

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:50 AM PST

While this isn't home security, I'm still hoping you fine people can help.

I should start by saying that I can be a bit of a luddite at times but my plan is to run a three camera setup at my business covering the three entrances/exits. I have a Seagate NAS 2 bay pro that I was planning to use for footage storage and then run out to PEO cameras (not purchased yet) via cat 6 ethernet cables. Seem good?

The big question is what software do I need for viewing and recording? I'm looking at Synology license packs and getting lost pretty quickly.

Any help from anyone who has set up a system use a NAS would be HUGELY appreciated.

Need advice on DIY alarm system with diy monitoring

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 01:28 PM PST

I am in IT, done bunches of camera systems, but haven't dealt with alarm systems. I have been looking at DSC hardware to replace the antique burglar alarm at my office. I don't want to pay anyone to monitor the system. I really don't want to have to depend on any certain company for their app to access my system remotely to shut off the alarm if it does go off. I'd like to get sms notifications if the alarm is tripped. I have looked at this module for the new DSC systems: https://www.eyezon.com/evl4.php EnvisaLink EVL-4EZR For DSC & Honeywell Systems

Anyone have suggestions? What I have seen with Simplysafe and the rest of the DIY stuff marketed hasn't really impressed me.

    Thank you in advance.

    Using Frontpoint without monitoring?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:26 AM PST

I have a Frontpoint system that is just about out of contract. Has anyone had any luck using one of their systems without monitoring? I just don't use the system all that often, so paying $50/mo isn't worth it.

Wireless cameras have taken over, they are easy to jam right?

Looking for a new camera system

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:07 AM PST

So I want to upgrade our cameras from the cheap Yi Home cameras we have. These are horrible for false notifications. but better to be able to view them than not. Previously we've run Arlo too but the batteries were a big expense and we ran into issues with connectivity on one of the cameras.

I want IP cameras because the performance of hardwire is so solid, but my wife really wants to stay wireless in case we want to move them. I'm trying to sway her but it may just make sense to pick my battles.

4-6 cameras would be ideal and the budget is going to be around $400-$600.

I was looking at Lorex and Amcrest. are there others to consider? these are external so I'm less concerned about anyone hacking them and watching us, but I don't like the idea of someone just killing the whole system with a jammer. ADHD is in full swing sorry for being all over the place.

    Ideal whole house system physical+electronic

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 06:30 AM PST

I see lots of bits n pieces of this coming out in posts but im wondering if any of you care to contribute your ideal whole home scenario/system in a ranked order (i.e. here is x things if you can only afford y then do the first y). If you want to include the why for each that would be bueno. Id kind of like to keep this attainable and assume average risk, not what you should have on your meth lab in Columbia.

I think many of us, or at least me, have piecemeal security and it may be nice to see what we don't have but should be a priority (e.g. i have no window security but do have cameras and need to change that).

So, if you would oblige, in order from most to least important, what should a person do to secure their average home in an average place?

Wireless cameras for slow internet and with tune-in functionality?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:37 AM PST

Our home has extremely shitty internet, < 1Mbps. We are snowbirds and will be leaving the house for a few months of the year. I would like to have the ability to monitor the cameras through an app when there are alerts.

Can wired security cameras still allow you to monitor them? I was hoping to go the wireless route so the wires couldn't trace where the cameras are located and keep them hidden. But then I also think we may be limited by the extremely limited bandwidth we have.

    I was considering the

eufyCam 2 Pro 2K Indoor/Outdoor 2-Camera Security System or the

Lorex 4K UHD 8-Channel IP Security System with 4 Smart Deterrence 4K Cameras with Color Night Vision or the

Arlo Pro3 2K QHD Wire-Free Security Camera System

    Advice for first floor apartment

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:04 AM PST

Hi r/homesecurity! I've been reading through the posts here and gotten some good perspective. I can't find anything directly relating to my situation, so I figured I'd make a post. I know pretty much nothing about security, so any advice is awesome.

I live in a small apartment on the first floor in a city. There is one door to the inside of the building, the building door has a code. I'm not super concerned about the door, but I do worry about our windows. Two have AC units in them, the units are screwed in, but someone could obviously bust them out with enough effort. The other windows have locks and I check them often. I only open them during the day when we are home.

My question: should I just buy cheap window alarms for each window and a glass break alarm? Or should I look into a full system like simplisafe? I don't feel like I need something that automatically calls the police or cameras, is that naive? I'd just like to add some deterrents and something that would alert me if I were home. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Suggestions for outdoor 12 volt power adapter for cameras?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 06:18 AM PST

I have outdoor cameras that run on 12 volt. That said, the AC adapters are indoor rated. I was looking for suggestions of a 12 volt adapter that is rated for outdoor use but not having any luck. Anyone have suggestions?
