How to fix Swan security Cameras ground loop video noise (May work on other systems as well)

So I was randomly having fuzzy images on my Swann Security system. And I purchased some ground loop isolators for BNC connectors. This actually made it worse. The image got fuzzy and less 1080p crisp.

So how did I fix it?

Well I use to be an electrician, and I gave it a good hard thought, and realized the issue. There are 2 power supplies in my system, 1 for the Cameras and 1 for the DVR itself. The camera signal cable is grounded directly to the DVR, but I realized the two different power supply negative sides aren't tied together.

So the camera has a different potential on it's power supply side than its signal side. What I did was run a wire from the video camera power negative and tied it to the DVR's ground screw. Basically get a small wire and set it inside a camera power side, and plug the wire in (careful not to short hot to cold) and the dc jack will wedge it against the outside making it a ground wire. Then use the systems grounding threaded screw, and tie the other end to the DVR itself. This cleared up all my images and made them brighter to boot.

Here is an image of the basics of what I did.

Here's a video of some before and after, I didn't search super hard for a lot of "bad" footage.

I hope this helps some one some day, and if there are questions I will clarify.

Smoke detector hooked to ADT 2000 safe watch system. Any advice as to what the replacement smoke detector might be? It's had false alarms three times in the last month. Anybody know what brand this was what the replacement model might be?

ONVIF camera with decent sound quality?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 03:31 PM PST

    Hi,

I have experimented with a few cheap bullet cameras bought on Amazon from various brands (Sannce, ReoLink, Ctronics).

I can get video and audio for all of them in BlueIris.

However ReoLink gives no sound at all (maybe it has no microphone) and Sannce and Ctronics essentially pipe though white noise and various cracking noises, nothing really audible.

Can anyone recommend a good camera model for recording not just pretty images but also good sound quality?

Or maybe: is anyone able to record clear audio from an IP Cam? Which model are you using?

    Thank you.

Dahua DSS Express - unable to reliably review footage

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 11:08 AM PST

So I have DSS Express setup to combine the feed of my doorbell and house cameras, while also recording on the DSS server. So far everything works fine, all 3 devices are recording and are combined as a single site.

But when it comes to playback, it will load up the timeline, but when I select lets say 1400, it'll go back a bit, usually to the same spot.

For example, I select 1400 with the marker, it'll set the marker at 1310. But if I set the marker +- 30 minutes of 1400, it'll always snap back to that 1310. If I set the time to lets say 1500, it'll snap back to 1340 and do the same weird thing.

At first I thought the server and client were not synced, so i ensured they were, new footage also did the same thing.

I installed the client on the server and I get the same issue. All the cameras snap back.

What makes it annoying is that there is a spot where I setup the new camera and footage started, but wanted to review a part, but the footage would snap back at a time that is before the timeline, meaning I can't actually select that time, I need to use that weird thing to try and find it.

    Anybody experience anything like that?

Security film where people can't see in the house

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 04:43 PM PST

I'm looking for security film. 3M is the standard, but everyone I called told me that people will be able to see in at night.

Any security film of 3M's caliber where people can't see in?

    Old ADT Safewatch pro 2000

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 04:31 AM PST

My home has a ADT safe watch pro 2000 system that was installed in 1988. Want to upgrade the system do not want to be with ADT. What are my options. It is an old dialer system. I would assume new systems could utilize the door contacts points. But I need to replace smoke detectors sister old. Who systems are the best ones to go with today. I understand the ring, simply safe type systems. But I am looking for one that utilizes some of my old wiring.

Are there any “hybrid” Security Cameras in the market?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 06:42 AM PST

    Hi!

I have been thinking about installing some security cameras in my house for a while now. However, I can't seem to find one that makes me feel at ease.

I like the user friendliness of the most popular wireless cameras out there but appreciate and prefer the constant recording that an nvr wired camera system provides.

However, my hesitation to go with wired, has to do with the event of a power outage, and them essentially being down while there is no power.

Question: Are there any cameras that are wired but have an on board battery for cases in which the poe looses power?

If so, any recommendations? Or any other security cameras/system you would recommend?

    Thanks for all your help!

Want to develop RapidRecap script that others can use. Need info on how you guys store your video files.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 10:16 AM PST

I'm sure everyone has seen this:

    https://www.core77.com/posts/92222/The-Rapid-Recap-System-for-Condensing-Hours-of-Security-Footage-Into-Seconds

And I believe blue iris has their own version integrated.

Long story short, it's called video synopsis. I've found some interesting githubs out there that do demonstrate in different ways, some better than others. My goal is to just write a simple wrapper that allows you to select between a few of these methods (obviously just starting out with one). Script will be:

    1. Point towards directory.

    2. Synopsis start/stop time (i.e. 12PM to 12PM everyday), likely based off of file creation dates.

    3. A few options, such as length of summary, resolution, etc.

    4. Ability to upload to youtube/email file or youtube link to yourself.

The main question that I have is, do most people have a good way to run a script on a computer or something that can access the files? It might even be doable on a Raspberry Pi, but there needs to be access, such as samba/FTP/etc give the script access to the files.

    POE Security System question

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 10:01 PM PST

Hi there y'all I was hoping to find a decent POE Security system that offered wired cameras, night vision, audio recording, and remote access via a app or web browser. My budget is somewhat flexible, but I'm looking for something that can offer alot of tools that I can use for monitoring around the area.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise y'all stay safe and have a good one.

I bought a new home that has ADT Pulse OC835 Wireless outdoor cameras installed and was wondering how I can reset them so I can connect to them

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 04:44 PM PST

I've called ADT and basically they want $100+ to come out and activate everything and then I can cancel the monthly service. Is there any way I can do it without them? Thanks for any help!
