Posted: 16 Dec 2020 03:44 PM PST Hey folks. I'm looking to Add control for to my home and I was told DSC is a good alarm system to integrate with it. Problem is I can't find many reviews on it. Is Dsc Neo am outdated system? Is it any good? I don't even see an app for it. Thanks for any answers in advance. [link] [comments] |

Flood light / camera combo for alarm.com Posted: 16 Dec 2020 11:18 AM PST Does anyone know if alarm.com has a flood light / camera combo that mounts to a junction box? I see Ring and some others have one. Or are there any converters that allow you to wire a standard camera to a junction box? [link] [comments] |
Trying to do a drill-free installation. Is it possible in my case? Posted: 16 Dec 2020 09:18 AM PST Hi, Its my first time installing a CCTV camera and I am very nervous about drilling into a wall to attach a camera. I just think its something permanent and undoing the installation will be difficult. Above is the link to the entrance of my house. I need a camera that lets me see the entrance of my house (particularly the door) Would it be possible to mount a camera without drilling? Any advise on this? My friend thinks drilling isn't a big deal. I don't know I am just worried about what I would do should I want to change the camera at some point, or just remove the camera. How will I cover up those holes ? Sorry if I sound neurotic . [link] [comments] |
Smart Lock with Pin on both sides Posted: 15 Dec 2020 09:55 PM PST Long story short I need a smart lock that requires a code or fingerprint to enter and exit. I just need something that isn't a double sided deadbolt so that I can comply with code. [link] [comments] |
Building a motion activated, battery powered IR illuminator, part 2 Posted: 15 Dec 2020 05:57 PM PST What feels like a lifetime ago I made this post trying to find a way to cobble together a battery powered IR illuminator to assist my cameras: https://www.reddit.com/r/homedefense/comments/hahefg/building_a_motion_activated_battery_powered_ir/ I never got past the drawing board on that one, the parts just never felt like they would come together right. However, I finally did end up with something that works! I came across this product https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07697W49K while browsing around, and immediately noticed how similar it looked to the Brinno APL200. I thought that another company may have used the same plastic mold and PCB, just replaced the LEDs with white light. Looking closer, I don't think this is what they did, but it got me thinking. I ordered one, and several 850nm LED's from Digi-Key https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/solidlite/AU3838A-YRR-1000MA/13251233 The results are incredible IMO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUfV4RDKDRk it's like an invisible spotlight. The camera clearly as trouble compensating for exposure as I move it around. Mounted in one location, and not glaring off of anything though, and it should light up a good size area. I've ordered another body and have several leftover LEDs. This time I'm going to document the process better. One thing I'm not sure of is if I got the voltage right for the LEDs. It's 6v to the board (4x 1.5v D's in series), but I'm wondering now if it steps down before it gets to the LED pads themselves. It would make sense, but I screwed up the pads pretty bad (kinda surprised it works to be honest) and couldn't get a very good reading across them. If it is 6v, then I need to either source 6v LED's from somewhere (they seem impossible to find) or step down the voltage. As it is though, they work, they may just burn out a lot faster than normal.
