If you have a Home Secretary camera in your house and you are not there but an arsonist destroys the home as well as the camera, will that camera have footage in anyway???

    Doors

Anyone have any recommendations for specific interior doors they feel are very secure? Looking to improve fortifications for interior doors that lead into basement and kitchen from within garage. Thanks.

Security camera which doesn't internet connection?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:17 AM PST

I need CCTV cameras that don't need internet connection or WiFi or cellular data(it is okay, but that'll be my last option). Which record on the loop via SD cards, and which can be checked later if needed. No wires are preferred. I wanna use them to install them in my factory. Any idea which one would be suitable (India)

Looking for an outdoor motion detection system that a) activates a brief siren / sound on approach, and b) can be armed/disarmed inside the home.

Here's what I'm envisioning: a set of sensors around the house that will emit a sound on approach (a light would be fine too, but I'm primarily focused on a sound alarm). But I'd like to be able to turn it on and off either with an app, or a receiver inside the house, so I can just activate it when we are going to bed.

All the "driveway sensors" I see on Amazon just emit a sound from a receiver INSIDE the house, to warn the occupants that someone is approaching. But I want the intruder to hear the sound, to deter him from approaching further.

    Any ideas?

Cheapest way to record 2 PoE cams

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:17 PM PST

Hi, I moved into a house with 2 PoE cams (model DWC-BVI2IR) that aren't plugged into anything. What is the cheapest way to get them up and running? Blue Iris on an always-on desktop? Do I need a PoE switch too, or would a PCI adapter like this do the trick? Looks like the original NVR that come with this system runs about $250, is that the better way to go? Any advice for reasons to go one way or another (such as remote access?) would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thoughts on chambering a blank in a home defense shotgun, for purposes of kids’ safety, and for firing a warning shot?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 07:23 AM PST

First-time gun owners. Wife and I just purchased a Mossberg 20 gauge pump-action for home defense. We are very worried about our two very curious boys (6 and 8). Obviously we will lock up the gun, but we cannot shake off the "what if" scenario - what if they get to it somehow? We've read horror stories of kids in their early teens cracking their parents' safes just by watching YouTube how-to videos.

So I had the idea of putting a blank as the first round. I figure this would accomplish two things: a) If the kids get their hands on the gun, and accidentally discharge it, the blank will scare the shit out of them and greatly reduce the risk of serious injury, and b) I figure I could also use it as a warning shot against intruders.

    Thoughts?

Apartment will be empty for two months, security system recommendations?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 06:56 PM PST

The apartment I live in on the ground floor of an complex will be uninhabited for a couple months and I am worried that if someone were to try to break in it would be a long time before anyone noticed. I was thinking of getting some light timers to keep up appearances and keeping the blinds shut but I was thinking that some kind of security monitoring would be a good idea.

I do not really want to commit to a long term home security plan I just need something I can set up for these months and then remove when I return. I was thinking a DIY webcam might work but if anyone has any experience with a similar situation of needing temporary coverage and using a home security system, I would love some recommendations.

    Thanks!
