My alarm uses Interlogix NX-8E panel. Can I use my existing hardware to interface with Honeywell Lyric alarm?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 10:56 PM PDT

My system uses the NX-8E panel, with a few other modules connected to it, for my hardwired Alarm.com setup. My contract is expiring and I want to get an alarm that is compatible with HomeKit, which the Honeywell Lyric is. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if my current hardware will interface with a new Honeywell Lyric panel? I assume I'd need some device to wire to the NX-8E so that the new Lyric panel can communicate, but I am completely lost when I read online. Most stuff I read online is DYI now. I can understand how easy a fresh install could be with all wireless devices, but getting old system to work with new seems more difficult. I am having trouble finding a local company (socal).

    Thanks for any tips!

Mobile Streaming For Halloween - A Tricky Business

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 06:51 PM PDT

    Hello Homesecurity brains,

I am attempting to stream and record a snorricam for a Halloween event. 1-2 people will walk a forested path for up to 3 hours at night and perform tasks. If you have ever seen FEAR, then that in a nutshell is what is being attempted here.

We would ideally stream the footage back to a home within .5 mile, via youtube live or some other platform everyone can view from. In an ideal world, there would be other cameras set up along the path to observe more than just the snorricam, but just focusing on the snorricam for now. The home does not have Wifi so we will have to rent a hotspot (An option - https://www.skyroam.com/skyroam-hotspot-rental)

    Here are some unique constraints:

    • Must include night vision since this is happening at night.
    • Reviews of the area suggest very poor wireless reception as it's remote, and there is no wifi in the home that is serving as "base camp". (With that said, Google Fi and AT&T seems to have coverage according to their coverage maps).
    • Stream audio along with the video.

Since you're the experts in home security, I thought your collective brain power could create the optimal architecture which is reliable, yet not cost prohibitive.

My understanding of the architecture would be something like -

    Camera>(Converter)>Encoder>Modem/Wireless Connection>Computer>Streaming Platform.

Having a battery pack to power these devices continuously is also needed. This would all attach to a vest the user would be wearing.

Some potential options I've looked into -

Mobile Networking & Encoding: These options seems a bit pricey but are convenient.

Rent a VidiU Pro Streaming Kit https://www.sharegrid.com/atlanta/l/89719?type=rent

    LiveU Solo. https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/127353-liveu-lu200?type=rent

    Cameras

    https://www.amazon.com/Security-Surveillance-Detection-Waterproof-Deterrent/dp/B084JHJ6DC

This mini bullet camera seemed ideal as it's unobtrusive, but will need to convert like some of the other options: https://www.amazon.com/Vanxse-Security-90degree-Infrared-Surveillance/dp/B01N7KQPJI/

    Camera Converter

    RCA to HDMI https://www.amazon.com/Converter-ABLEWE-Composite-Supporting-Blue-Ray/dp/B07RX69KR8

    Encoder

The idea of attaching this and carrying it on a vest/harness seems cumbersome. https://www.amazon.com/TIGERSECU-4-Channel-Security-Recording-Included/dp/B078PR7RC4

RTSP, RTMP, ONVIF give me a headache so if there is a simple solution to avoid this that would be great but not a requirement.

The simplest and cheapest option may be to have them stream from a phone via wifi hotspot. However, the night vision is lost and I'm not sure if this will scale to having other cameras observe (Such as also having a shoulder mounted camera and a couple on trees).

    Thoughts?

    4MP Night Color/Starlight+ vs 8MP Starlight+ Cameras

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:50 PM PDT

I'm on the fence for a future camera upgrade. I read old posts saying that 4K clarity is good for day time or well lit areas, but that it wasn't as good for night time shots. I selected higher-end cameras with larger CMOS sensors and varifocal lenses to compare. I'm looking at:

    • A82AF5V/HAC-HFW2802T-Z-A (Bullet - 8MP - Starlight+)
    • A82AH5V/HAC-HDW2802T-Z-A (Eyeball- 8MP - Starlight+)
    • HAC-HDW2402T-Z-A (Eyeball - 4MP - Starlight+)
    • A42BJAZ (Eyeball - 4MP - Night Color)

These cameras will be placed in areas where bright daylight and fairly dark night shots will be present. I noticed minimum light for color is slightly lower on 4MP/2K models (.002 vs .005). Are the newer 4K models still suffering from worse night shots than the 2K cameras? Is Starlight+ better than Night Color? Also, is there a difference between Eyeball and Bullet form factor other than IR distance and aesthetics? I'd be grateful for any assistance.

Moon looking for a few options

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 02:49 PM PDT

Hey everyone. I'm looking to get a security system. I live in a rambler in the suburbs. I think I would need about 4-5 Cameras and maybe a couple flood lights.

I would like to be able to look footage from my phone so I can check in on things when I am at work. My friend recommended Arlo but after reading this sub for a bit it seems like that might not be the way to go.

Can anyone kindly suggest a few options?

    Home security for apartment.

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:46 PM PDT

I live in a hole in the wall apartment. I live on the first floor and my only door is the door to the parking lot/back yard where the drunkies chill all day. I'm not sure what I'm looking for as I'm new to this I just know I want a way to monitor my house/have a way to kno if anyone attempts or successfully breaks in when I'm not home. Should I be looking at an indoor cam that would monitor my front door/living room from the inside or should I be looking for something to would monitor from the outside, I'm leaning towards monitoring from the inside cause then I can see what they do if the happen to gain entry. Idk I just know Reddit is the best place to find answers for my questions. Thank you in advance and ask any questions needed if I left anything out.

Home security + Battery Cams + Offline Storage?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 02:38 AM PDT

    Hi All,

I've had a look at Arlo and can see it's not the way to go if offline storage (non-Cloud sync) is a priority.

Are there any suggestions for a non-Cloud security solution with offline storage and battery cams?

I think perhaps Eufy is a good option, are they worth considering?

    Thanks!

Has anyone used alert360 and how does it compare?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 02:05 PM PDT

So I'm investigating all the different options of alarm.com qolosys , adt, google nest/brinks and now alert360. Issue is I haven't heard if them before. I'm being quoted 0 down0 installation cost 36 month contract and 40 a month or 399 for equipment 99 install 29 a month. Includes gc2e-2gig panel and a variety of door and window sensors and smoke detectors. Uh is this a good deal and has anyone used them as I've never heard of this brand. The installing company is fort knox out of Austin.

I only need security for doors and windows and smoke detectors. I have my own nest stuff for door locks, cams doorbell and every other smart home feature.. I'd prefer something I can intergate with my google environment but I'm also prepared to have security be Its own app.

on-site storage, mix of wired and wireless

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:38 AM PDT

I'd like a camera system with 24/7 recording on 4 hardwired cameras plus 1 or 2 wireless cameras. Does such a mixed system exist?

    Thanks!
