Posted: 01 Oct 2020 06:47 PM PDT What is the best hikvision model you can buy? To make it easy on any commenting. I plan on using the domes, all wired, a 2tb hard drive (or should I go bigger? Would a laptop work or just do an desktop?) Let's hear it folks. [link] [comments] |
Motion detection software wanted Posted: 01 Oct 2020 10:34 AM PDT Back in the 90's I had software that came with my webcam that would monitor video without saving the image data until it detected motion and then it would record. You could even adjust the sensitivity. Are there any reliable programs to do this now? I want to use it for an inside window monitor. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 10:30 PM PDT It's been really frustrating trying to find a product that I'm ok with purchasing so I'm turning to the experts. I'm on a budget (read live in a shady area) and just need 1 cam connected directly to a PC that is for outdoor use. Something with pan/tilt, night vision and the ability to control positioning from whatever software it comes with. Would prefer I be able to use an app on android to view remotely as well. Thanks for your time! [link] [comments] |
Advice on outdoor security cameras? Posted: 01 Oct 2020 08:42 PM PDT We are quickly needing to decide on some outdoor security cameras to install as we've had a bit of trouble around the area. Should have had something to begin with, but that's irrelevant. After just a couple of hours searching it seems the main pillars of outdoor security cameras are: Arlo, Ring, Wyze, and generic amazon options. Maybe not necessarily the top dogs, but I've seen these the most often. Any thoughts, tips, recommendations, advice etc is welcomed. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:43 AM PDT Howdy all, I managed to snag a P3245-lve for the home and now I need to figure out what to do for the recording. I don't have an old computer and don't have much time to build one since I have a newborn to take care of. I've been doing a little research and found out that Axis makes the S3008 recorder. Has anyone used it? What else would I need in order to record, view, have alerts, etc? I'm unclear if I need a computer with Axis Companion. Are there any other recommendations? I would like to have the ability to connect a monitor or POE screen to it to view the feeds from the network closet as well as receive alerts on my phone and be able to see actual video rather than snippets. We have a Ring and while we like the UI, the cameras haven't proven to be reliable. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 10:47 AM PDT I've got 2 camera systems that have Dahua cameras on them. The one at home has a IPC-HFW4631F-ZAS that has been rock solid for 18+ months. It ALSO has a IPC-HFW4631F-ZSA (notice the difference in the last 3 digits) that was great in the beginning, but then started not working. If I power cycle the PoE via my network software, it will come back on and work for a few hours or a few days (it varies wildly). I assumed it was a bad camera, and ordered one to replace it, but haven't climbed up on the house to do it yet. At work, I recently convinced the owner to upgrade to one of these for a problem area, and now I discover that the IPC-HFW4631F-ZSA is doing the exact same thing on the work network. Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing with Dahua or any other brand? Is there a setting somewhere in the PoE software I need to tweak? Is this a known issue? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 10:12 AM PDT Hey all! My parents are wanting to get a couple (maybe up to 3) outdoor cameras for the house. We don't really know much about security cameras so I'm hoping I can get some information and help here. At least be pointed in the correct direction. I've done some research and I see that wireless seem to be pretty common, my only thinking is that we have to "worry" about changing the battery. And if they're running 24/7 I feel the battery would drain pretty quickly. Maybe I'm wrong. We also live in Colorado so it will absolutely be out in below 0 temps at times which I know the cold slaughters batteries. So I guess to start, are wireless or wired better? I understand there's pros and cons to both and it depends on the situation, but again, we're all totally new to this so just trying to gather as much data as possible. We also aren't looking for an actual company such as ADT to be monitoring it. We'd like to get 2-3 cameras that can communicate with our phones and probably a desktop browser as well. So to kinda wrap this up, I guess I'm just looking to see pros and cons of wireless vs. wired cameras and then what systems people recommend. I've seen Wyze, Nest and Arlo Pro 3 seem to be pretty constantly at the top. Any and all help is extremely appreciated! Edit: They'd like to be able to view the footage (live and recorded) from their phones whether they're home or away from the house. I'm also not sure of a budget, however I know they don't want a cheap system. They'd like a solid, reliable system. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 05:34 PM PDT Anyone know of a nest cam type wifi camera that will work with a local nvr like blue iris? Specifically looking at the simplicity of the mounting, shape and power cable of the nest Cam, as i know i can get any general security cam from Hik or Dahua and mount that. This will be mounted on a outside brick wall so hoping it does not have extra cables like Ethernet or reset etc that come with regular cameras i.e. self contained like a nest cam [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 04:03 PM PDT I need a simple solution to record my neighbor dealing drugs to people in their driveway. Motion detect on cameras i have looked up wont work that far. I wouldn't be opposed to have it record straight to a hard drive and I review it every day and save what I needed. Already working with police. I just recorded them with my phone handing off something, in broad daylight, and money switching hands right outside my kitchen window... I want these people gone and im doing whatever I can to help the police. Any advice would be appreciated [link] [comments] |
Xprotect Essentials+ Installation Error Posted: 01 Oct 2020 11:02 AM PDT Hi All, Has anyone get any experience with Milestone Xprotect Essentials+? I'm trying to install it, but keep hitting the same installation error. It seems to suggest that there's something wrong with the certificate, but I've just egenerated these with LetsEncrypt via Posh-ACME. The Log file excerpt is shown below. Anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing the issue? [link] [comments] |
Honeywell Vista 20P and 6150RF keypad Posted: 01 Oct 2020 01:32 PM PDT So I was adding some more door sensors and crashed my panel. Looks like I added more wireless zones than the 6150RF could handle. Can anyone explain my best option to add capacity? If I just replace the 6150RF with a 6160RF will I need to add all my wireless zones back on the new RF keypad? Are the zone settings stored on the RF keypad? I see the Honeywell 5881E?? Receivers, can I just add one of those or will it not work with an existing RF keypad? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 09:22 AM PDT Hi, I see a lot of posts about wireless camera recommendations. What would you recommend for cameras that are PoE, outdoor, IR, (M)JPEG for lower CPU on Zone Minder? [link] [comments] |
