Someone tried to break into my apartment while I was home. Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:33 AM PDT I honestly dont know what to think after this happened. But I was home alone about 30 minutes before I had to go to work. I was watching TV and it was pretty loud. But out of nowhere someone started sliding my glass door open and peeked their head inside. I loudly exclaimed WHAT THE FUCK. As I chased them back out side to the patio. Where I saw another person and the guy I saw hop over the fence and run. I just want to know, did they know I was going to work? Why did they open the door if my TV was playing? And what happens to dogs when break ins happen? I have a dog would've been left alone if I had been at work and I cant stop thinking about what would've happened. Any insight or advice would be great. I installed another metal bar in the way of the glass door. And I'm investing in security cameras. [link] [comments] |
What are the best camera system without audio recording for under 1k Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:31 PM PDT I am looking for 4-6 cameras. Audio recording in my state is Illegal unless I want to plaster a bunch of security cameras with audio all over my house. Clear enough for people to see at night. Any recommendations? There is a lot of Chinese junk I am seeing at best buy and amazon. [link] [comments] |

Old system with cellular/ wifi connection Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:41 AM PDT Hi, I have a 20 year old security system at home. Basic, with motion sensor and perimeter monitoring. No wireless/ remote monitoring or video recording or anything. Everything works well, I have no issues. For connection to emergency services, it is connected through the telephone. I have the phone line (VOIP through Optimum) just for this, otherwise I have internet for entertainment/ TV (no cable). Have been looking at security systems and it looks like most of them have cellular connectivity for 911 connections. So thought of "updating" my system just for the connectivity, as other things are working well, and hopefully same some $$ by dropping the phone service. I reached out to the company that installed my security system about this upgrade and they said that the cellular connectivity needs a new module or adapter, and that would be about $200, and increase monthly monitoring cost to $25. I am paying about $15 now for the phone connection monitoring. Wanted to see if anyone has done something similar to what I am trying to do, and how much I can expect to spend. Thank you in advance for your inputs. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:16 PM PDT My wife wants to have a couple indoor cams to monitor our baby when he's being watched and as she would likely be using it a lot, I need something that is rather easy to use on an android app. Diving into indoor security cams, and with my own IT background, I obviously would prefer a poe system with dvr, or building my own with something like blueiris, but as we don't want to spend that much money, and she has very little patience with tech, I need something simpler like nest that's just an app you can look in, and has good recording features. 24/7 would be nice, but I'd be happy to get some sort of motion triggered cameras so long as they do a good job. Looking to get 2 cameras for inside. What are some good options preferably under $500? Been looking at arlo, the logitech circle, and blink so far. Anything else I should consider? Any advice appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Qolsys IQ+ /PowerG outdoor motion options Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:23 PM PDT I have a qolsys iq2 plus with power G based home security system. Looking at guardline quarter mile driveway sensors and receiver. It looks like the receiver has relay contacts that would allow integration to a qolsys door transmitter. Does anyone have experience with setting this arrangement up? If yes, can you set up different relays from a single receiver or do all four of the potential transmitters trigger a single Wireless sensor. [link] [comments] |
Konnected.io - anyone with experience Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:41 PM PDT I am not trying to drive interest for them. I honestly want to know who has had any experience with their products and what your opinion is. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 01:04 PM PDT Hi Everyone ! I was just wondering if anyone had experiences with Vivant or SimpliSafe ? My wife and I are moving into a new house and looking to secure the area. The con we found so far with SimpliSafe was that it was easily hacked but it seems like they fixed that with their most recent system (SS3) . Does anyone know if this is true ? For vivant our concern is being trapped in a sketchy contract although they promise it will be month to month. Thanks in advance for any answers on this ! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:32 AM PDT Hello everyone, looking for some guidance on which system is better. I have done some basic research and a few consumer reports say Arlo is better but has a monthly/yearly subscription. I do not think there is one for Ring. I'm looking to place a few cameras around the house: door/doorbell, garage entrance, 2 backyard, and would like 1 or 2 inside. I think Arlo only does 5 cameras on their basic paid plan but also seems like they might not to more in total for an account. Any info/advice would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
