What’s the best type or brand of mace / pepper spray for civilian use?

In my area, there more and more occurrences of people attacking those wearing masks in public. This is happening in parks, trails, parking lots, etc.

I would like to keep a spray when we're out or when my wife is out with our child. As we are high risk, we must wear masks. Masks are not a political statement for my house. They are a mandatory precaution.

What's a good brand or type of pepper spray to fend off the everyday anti mask person?

Firearms are a no for me. Even though I have much experience and was a competitive with a pistol previously. For personal reasons, I stay away from firearms. I'm aware of the benefits and the risks of not owning.

    Threats in the woods

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 05:50 AM PDT

    Good morning.

My wife and I live in the woods. A single road serves to the property.

We received threats. They are alcoholics and drug addicts with histories of violence, and guns are illegal for us to possess here.

I need to know where to focus my search: I was thinking about hunting cameras that can send a feed to my phone. Or infrared sensors on the road, ones that can be tweaked to react to animals/humans and possibly not wind.

In any case something with batteries 50-100 yards from the house, and phone signal is poor here so maybe some wifi, but not cables or poe.

Possibly something I can connect to a laptop from where I can check cameras or get warnings.

    Thanks in advance.

Help with old alarm system in newly purchased house

Hi all, first post here. I just became the new 3rd owner of a 20 year old house and was hoping to get some help with an alarm system that came with the home. The original owner had a hardwired alarm system installed back from Greater Alarm in 2002 which the 2nd owners disabled. The alarm comprises multiple sensors for the downstairs windows, an alarm panel (in upstairs bedroom closet) and 2 alarm switches (1 in the laundry room and 1 in the master bedroom). The alarm switches still have power to them but all of the monitoring has been turned off. None of the buttons seem to do anything. I've attached photos below.

We're looking to do some remodeling and would like to uninstall the system completely. The alarm company is no longer exists and their website has been scrubbed. I tried calling the 1-800 number and got routed to some call center in Chicago and was told that our property is no longer serviced and they couldn't help me.

    My questions are:

    1. Is there a proper safe way to remove the alarm system? Or do I need to call an alarm specialist/electrician?
    2. If the alarm panels/switches are removed is there another utility for the wires? Or should I just cap them and have the holes sealed with drywall?

    Thank you!

Security cam cient to automatically move / copy sd camera files?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 05:40 AM PDT

    Hey!

I'd like to know if there's a client (doesn't have to be the reolink client) that allows to automatically move or copy sd card files of a security camera (Reolink) onto the connected hard drive (I don't mean continuous recording!)

    Best wishes!

Is getting a half deadbolt worth it?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 10:16 PM PDT

My wife is asking that we get half deadbolts on our doors. I have very little confidence I could actually install one so I'd probably have to pay someone to do it for me, and when I asked a few pros they said they don't usually like to do them.

What she wants is one that leaves no sign on the outside that there's even a deadbolt there. Not even one that's a normal deadbolt but no key access on the outside -- we're talking one where the hole isn't even drilled all the way through the door.

    Is this worth getting?

    EDIT 1:

We already have deadbolts on every door, all of them high security, no way to pick or bump.

Can you add wireless to a Lorex nvr?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 06:23 PM PDT

New to Lorex and recently got a poe system with an nvr. Would I be able to use a wireless Lorex camera with the nvr to record? I'd like to get a wireless camera to record only on motion detection. It would be in a spot that's not feasible to run cable
