Security camera with motion detection Posted: 26 Jun 2020 02:16 AM PDT This is for a small retail business, not a home. I want to install a camera that faces the front entrance, which is just a regular size door. Outside the door is a hallway with fairly high foot traffic. I spend a lot of time in the back room with no direct line-of-sight to the front entrance. I was thinking to mount a dedicated monitor on a wall in the back room. So when someone walls in the front entrance, I can come out right away to greet them. Here are some features (a wishlist) I want... - I want to see and hear when someone walks in. - I don't want the system to falsely alert me when someone is walking past or standing just outside the front door. The door is always propped open. - It would be nice if the monitor remains off when no one is in the store, and turns on when someone walls in. An audible chime would also be good when someone walks in. - We've had a very low theft rate over the years, so no need to have cameras everywhere. I just want to see the entrance. Can anyone suggest a product, or lead me in the right direction? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Cheap way to store 24/7 security camera feed for 7 days Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:40 AM PDT I'm planning to get a POE outdoor security camera at 4K resolution. I only need the one camera, and I only want to keep seven days of 24/7 recording at a time. What are some cheap and simple ways to store the recordings? Should I get an NVR, and if so, is there a less expensive option I should look at? Or, should I use an old computer running dedicated software? Or can I use an external hard drive? I'm not much of a developer, so I'm also looking for something that wouldn't require extensive setup. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Anyone know a camera that can survive in an attic under high heat or cold? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:29 PM PDT ok so i got a family of mice living in my attic... or maybe its satan... not sure and I am doing my best to get rid of them but I can't find out where they are coming in... I have a few guesses but I would like to put a camera in the attic to see what they are up to and where they are going. I can buy a $35 camera and have it die but I would be willing to pay maybe twice that if it can survive in the heat and cold.. I don't know how hot it gets up there but I don't like being up there unless its at night in the summer so its well over 100f all day... thats another issue i need to improve my venting and insulation but i want to get rid of these dam mice. Crazy thing is they will be up there all times of the day and night in the extreme heat and I don't understand how they handle that... I do live near a field and I expect its going to be a situation but I would like to find out how they are getting in and out because there are no real signs .. I have put screening in the downspouts I think they are getting up on the roof .. idk if the little bastards can just climb up my siding or what but I don't see any marks or holes at ground level... but there isn't anything to eat but poison mouse bait up there so they have to be getting in and out every day. anyway if you have had a camera thats good with night vision.. in a high heat situation and its cheap .. Security System for RENO property. Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:46 PM PDT I need a security system for a property that I'm renovating. The property is without phone or internet. Is there a way to set something up that will 1) alert the police and 2) capture video. [link] [comments] |
Night Owl security DVR remote viewing Posted: 25 Jun 2020 01:37 PM PDT I was considering getting a Night Owl 16 channel DVR and camera bundle I saw at Costco. I have a large building with BNC cables already installed and I don't want to spend money on reinstalling ethernet cables. It would be very expensive to do that because of the size and nature of the building. I think this bundle would be a cost effective upgrade for my current 960h setup. The resolution on that is just not good enough. My main concern is remote viewing of the Night Owl DVR. Based on what I've read online, Night Owl has terrible customer support and usually stops updating firmware on older products, which makes using their app impossible down the road. I also am worried that Night Owl makes their products inaccessible to third party apps for camera viewing. The way I have my current system setup is that I use a VPN to remote view the DVR while the DVR itself is blocked from accessing the internet. I use a third party generic camera viewing app on my iPhone and on my PC I use internet explorer to access the DVR's remote viewing and settings page/interface. I would like to do something similar with the Night Owl DVR. Am I able to block internet access on their DVRs and view them locally with a VPN? [link] [comments] |
Whats a good 1080p camera that can record, live view, and can send motion sensor alert? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:47 PM PDT I'm looking for a simple video camera I can attach to my front door's peephole for my front door since I get a lot of solicitors. Something that can record so I can review and I can view live on monitor/phone. I was thinking of something like baby monitors might work but some aren't HD and dont allow much features. Budget under $80 [link] [comments] |
Unconnected ADT system has no "stay" function, only "away" Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:29 AM PDT I recently moved into a place with an ADT-installed security system. I have not re-connected through ADT because I just want to use the alarm function. My problem is that both the "Stay" and "Away" button arm as "Away." My initial guess was that there are no motion sensors inside so "Stay" and "Away" would essentially function in the same way, but I found the below in one room. I can't find any images of a motion sensor that look like it but that must be what it is, right? Has anyone encountered the "Stay" vs "Away" issue before, or have advice on how to disable the motion detector so I can use the "Away" function while home (or maybe it is already disabled)? Thank you! ETA photo of sensor (?) https://imgur.com/a/qmfGx2n [link] [comments] |
Suggestions for window sensor install Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:37 AM PDT What did you use to affix your window sensors to your windows? New construction home with all windows hard wired. What is the best way to affix the sensor to the window where the wire is coking out of the wall? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:49 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking to get 2 cheap indoor cameras for while I'm on holiday. Ideally I would like to be able save/download a good chunk of the video if the need be (someone is coming in to look after the dog) as opposed to a 12 second clip for example. I am not exactly fussed about tilt, pan and that stuff, just something basic that I can view at any time, have cloud storage with the option to download clips of varying length, not just 6/12/30 seconds and decent quality audio and video. Reason being is my budget is almost non existent at around £30/£40 per camera. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
