Best home defense weapons besides gun Posted: 17 Jun 2020 03:21 PM PDT Are there any lethal weapons or objects I can use for home protection besides a gun? I'm having trouble getting a permit because 15 years ago when I was 19 I was hospitalized briefly for depression which I believe has made me a prohibited person for life in NJ. Thanks for any feedback? [link] [comments] |
Needing home door/ window alarms and wired cameras. Have been burned in the past, need suggestions. Posted: 17 Jun 2020 12:27 PM PDT In our old home we had a Funlux system with their NVR as recommended by someone and they were completed trash so I'm looking for suggestions. Located in USA. We are pretty DIY savvy but have no idea where to start with what to buy. I already have a Ring doorbell but prefer not to go with their whole system. We need a system for our home. We know we want:
Our main areas of concern are our vehicles getting broken into, people wandering onto our property at night. We just had $6k worth of things stolen so we're a bit prepared to go overboard to find ways to deter thieves again. Budget is no more than $1k for a 1900sq ft home but can be flexible on cost if needed. We have 400mbps internet plan and are going to be using a switch for this system. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Best bang-for-the-buck 4-cam NVR system Reolink ? Posted: 17 Jun 2020 02:26 AM PDT Is this a good buy ? https://m.reolink.com/ca/product/rlk8-520d4/ I ordered this on sale at amazon. $430 CAD no taxes (That's about $318 USD) Comes with 8 channel NVR with 2 TB, 4x 5MP cameras and 4x 18m network cables. Concerned about night vision quality mainly. [link] [comments] |
Building a motion activated, battery powered IR illuminator Posted: 16 Jun 2020 06:34 PM PDT I really have no idea what I'm doing here, but I wanted to propose the idea and see what people thought. I've been searching for a way to move the IR lights away from my cameras. I have PoE to the cameras, but no other power nearby (and I'm not running another cable). So I wanted:
When I searched for such lights though, the only one I found was the Brinno APL200, and it's prohibitively expensive. However, I think I can piece together my own:
Basically, I found the cheapest parts that would work, trying to keep the cost low. Should all fit together? How long will the battery pack last though? I know that will depend on how often the motion sensor is tripped, but continuous runtime should give me a better idea. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a security camera that’s wireless and will record 24/7 if such a thing exists. Posted: 16 Jun 2020 04:58 PM PDT I am unable to mount cameras outside because my outside outlets are in way too inconvenient a spot. I'm looking for something to record video all day pretty much that's also wireless. I'm pretty willing to pay more for quality, just have too much illegal activity going on around me [link] [comments] |
