How to connect my cheap IP Camera?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 06:36 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

so basically I have a cheap chinese IP camera that connects to Wifi I guess and while it does work and connect correctly to the phone app they say to use, I can't seem to figure out how to connect it on things like iSpy or Reolink to see it on my computer.

The camera (i know it's pretty bad but the image quality is juste enough for my use) is an Escam Q6: http://www.escam.cn/product/showproduct.php?id=90

If you guys have an idea on how I should do to connect it to my computer software, I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks and stay safe

    Glass vibration/break sensors

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:21 PM PDT

Looking for suggestions for glass vibration sensors. We purchased the Ring system but it does not have glass break detection...unless you use Alexa Guard and from my understanding it would need to be used in each room of the house and I'm not sure buying 6 Alexa devices, one for each room, makes sense. We knew this going in but I didn't want to purchase any additional equipment in case we had to return the system for any reason. I've seen some glass vibration detectors that go on the window panes themselves. GE makes one. I really like this option especially for the rooms that are furthest from the Master bedroom but wanted to get some feedback to see if anyone had another suggestions? We opted not to purchase contact sensors for every window as all of our windows lock and if we go the vibration alarm route the vibration alarm would detect anyone trying to pry the window open, in theory. I imagine a bad storm would cause these to go off so would like some other back up options if anyone has any? Are there any reliable glass break sensors that work for the entire 2000 square foot home, or even half and half, that aren't required to be connected to another monitoring system? Thanks for any advice.

Can I run wifi cameras off of old remote alarm speaker wiring?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:48 PM PDT

So I have a house with a 1980s alarm system that is not connected to any company but is still functional in terms of the control pad beeping when doors are opened etc. And I'd like to repurpose the whole thing at some point, but in the meantime I want to add some cameras to the outside of my house and I had a thought. By sheer luck, the two places I'd like cameras, there are outside alarm speakers. They are mounted way up high on the second floor directly to the siding, on opposite sides of the house. I'm assuming there are just two wires that go from each speaker to the main alarm panel in the basement. So what I'm wondering is, is there a wifi camera that I can run whatever low voltage it normally takes from a wall transformer/USB whatever, and reuse the existing speaker wires for that? Just mount the cameras where the speakers were, and at the other end by the alarm panel just disconnect it and hook to a DC transformer? I don't need/want outside alarm speakers. And does anyone have any recommendations for cameras? We currently have a Nest Hello doorbell, Google Home etc so compatibility would be needed. Thanks much in advance!!

Removing Old Brinks Panel From Closet

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:14 AM PDT

Just moved into our new home and there's a Brinks security box and keypad in the master bedroom closet. We won't be using Brinks, how do we get rid of the thing?

    Old wired alarm system

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:47 AM PDT

So we have an old wired system that came with the house. It was working fine for what we needed - all the doors/windows were alarmed, had remote access to check alarm etc, and calls central station if needed.

Recently one of the zones has faulted. Our security guy checked it and said it's an issue with the wire behind the wall and he can't get to it. Offered to make that zone wireless.

Don't love the security guy we have, asked friends but most of them are using Simplisafe, ADT, or Ring. I feel like we are better off with our wired system and can avoid all those ugly warts by all of our access points.

Just need a guy to fix the wire. But seems hard to find. Am I being foolish? Just go with the DIY wireless?

Install/pay for a new wired system or use my existing wireless system?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 07:35 AM PDT

I'm in the middle of building a house in a relatively quiet suburb, and my builder has offered to install a fully wired security system for $1600 before the drywall goes up. I think this is a reasonable bid, however I was only planning on self-monitoring using the wireless Z-wave based system I already have. I'm already running CAT6 to all entry points for a NVR-based camera system, but is it worth paying up to get wired sensors installed? I would not plan on subscribing to any monitoring service.

Any cheap indoor security cameras that I could install in a window that points outside?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT

Must have night vision. We're paying adt too much pet month. Looking for something we can maybe hook up to a power supply and have it pointing out of a window looking outside towards our porch. Any recommendations?

Doing Industry Research (NSF), Requesting Possible Quick Zoom Meetings

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 09:18 AM PDT

Hey all! I got permission from one of the mods for posting this ahead of time, so this isn't spam or marketing or anything like that. I'm just asking all end-users of security cameras (people who've bought/used surveillance cameras before), security system installers, security camera industry people, or anyone else who are related to these things to help me out if you can!

I'm doing research for the National Science Foundation for an SBIR Grant, and I basically need to go around doing 10-to-15-minute-maximum-long interviews (using a video chat tool like Zoom) to people in or has experience with video surveillance. Basically really general questions about the market if relevant to the person I'm speaking to, what features in these cameras are important/not important, any features they feel are currently missing/unaddressed in the market, etc. I need to conduct at least a 100 of these, so I'm looking for quantity on top of quality, in a way. So if you can't help me out, but know someone that can help, that'd be just as helpful.

So if you feel you have anything to share, and are okay with a super quick video conferencing tool, it would be GREATLY appreciated! You can contact me any way you want if you're interested (DM, Reddit chat, etc.).

Again, this isn't a sales thing at all. I'm only interested in learning about your experience.

    Thanks all!
