Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:51 PM PDT I'm fully aware that buying a gun with no formal firearms training is a horrible idea, and I'm open to other home defense suggestions as well. I live in a crappy apartment in a crappy neighborhood in a major metro area. I've been talking to the landlord about installing bars on the windows, or reinforcing our front door, but he's just as panicked as we are, so we may be on our own here. We're pretty well stocked as far as food and water goes, but many people here are not and we're afraid that they'll start trying to break in. I really didn't want to buy a gun because I don't think anyone ever wants to kill another human being (I'd rather use alarms/strobes/Sabre Red) but my wife is urging me to get one as she's afraid for our lives. We live in a state where "stand your ground" is in full effect so if we did get a break in, I'd be justified in shooting the attacker so long as they're in my home. I'm also open to other home defense suggestions, but I'm aware that if I go up against anyone with a gun and I don't have one, I'm pretty much fucked six ways from Sunday. [link] [comments] |
Should I buy these used LTS PoE cameras? Posted: 16 Mar 2020 11:20 PM PDT I'm going to install cameras around my house when the weather gets nicer. I found a local deal for the below cameras for about $10 each. They're selling more than I need, but for the price I'd just snatch them all up. Should I go for them? Seems too good to pass up, but I don't have a lot of experience with IP cameras yet. Claimed to be factory reset and ready to go. Includes a security tool. 4mm 2.1mp Dome cameras (CMIP7422) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:25 PM PDT Hello! New to reddit but longtime occasional browser. I came here to get info for alarm systems and was quickly overwhelmed.. I'm not sure yet how to really filter what I'm looking for. My situation: I've moved into a house in which I am often alone in (partner is long distance, have a short term roommate who is often with their partner instead of here). This is new for me and every single sound keeps me anxious at night I'd feel better about sleeping if I had something to alert/alarm at a broken window or window or door opening at all. I'm not really sure what I should be looking at. Our area is suburban and pretty low crime in this area of town. I dont feel that I need a camera, and when I read about motion sensors I feel I'd have a lot of recordings of my neighbors cats as they trip my motion sensor light often :P .. I guess from reading here i can also say I dont feel the need for monitoring either. If someone breaks into my home when I'm gone, so be it... I'm just worried about me being in the house and appropriately alerted. Long story short... what are your best suggestions? I'd get a dog if I could, but I cant :( Thanks kind people!
