Too many hikvision options, can someone help me choose?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 12:00 AM PST

After reading like a hundred posts here and looking up reviews anywhere i could find i think I'm going to get 4 hikvision PoE cameras and hook them up to a Synology surveillance system. But looking at the list of hikvision products is overwhelming.

I'm going to have 1 camera mounted in the corner over my front door looking out over the driveway and into the street. Another camera mounted over my back door looking out over the back yard. The other 2 cameras will be mounted on the sides of the house looking down one side each.

I'd like decent night vision on all 4 cameras, audio detection on the front and back door cameras. I want all of them to be at least 5mp.

Seems like filtering it to that point gives me like 60 options still.

I'm fine spending like 200-400 per camera. I just want good quality recording.

Can anyone help me choose which style of camera to put in each spot and if there are any recommendations on exactly which model numbers to look at I'd really appreciate it.

    Help: wyze ,eufy or reolink

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 12:37 AM PST

Looking for your suggestions based on the info below!!

I need in door camera recommendations for my home. I have looked online but got lost in a sea of brands. Wyze, eufy and reolink kept coming up.

Every time I searched reviews all they kept mentioning is wifi security and hackability.

I want to get 4-5 cameras at around $30-$40 USD per camera.

I want to be able to live view the cameras whenever and from anywhere i am for when I travel out of state. Or when I'm in bed and hear noises at 2 in the morning.

I have a Google nest door bell but don't want to pay 200 per indoor camera for nest brand.

I like the tilt and pan looking ones but not sure if they are better or worse than regular point and shoot kind of cameras.

1080 resolution is fine with me. 2k would be cool but not a requirement.

Some other things that I want these indoor cameras to do:

    1. show me clips of motion and sound without a subscription. Nest allows me to see the motion recordings for a limited time if I am busy and can't view the motion live.

    2. Night vision

    3. Microphone and speaker for walkie talkie like capabilities.

    4. Motion notifications during night hours while I'm home. And at all times for when I'm out of town.

    5. Wall powered

    6. I dont have many ethernet plugs so they would need to be wifi connections

Thanks in advance for your help

DSC Programming - Are there codes to disable the disarm beep on other keypads?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 12:33 AM PST

I've read the installer docs many times. Can't seem to figure out how to stop the keypad in the master bedroom from doing the four rapid beeps when I disable the alarm before I go to work (other half gets up for work much later than I do)

I'm a self monitored system with full installer access.

Thanks to any DSC gurus out there!

Ring Spotlight Wire-Free Outdoor 1080p IP Camera worth a buy?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 04:58 PM PST

Someone tested our house today but luckily someone was home. We would like to set up a camera system by tomorrow and this thing is available for pickup tomorrow morning.

Eventually would like to make a wired system, but would this do in the meantime?

    Why not Swann?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:25 PM PST

Looking to make the jump from shifty WiFi cameras to something wired and reliable. To crib from an archived post, my criteria are:

Both outdoor & indoor IP camera's. Local Storage - no cloud storage/subscription. Motion Detection - extra points for systems with some AI (maybe this will trigger less false positives?) Possibility to 'always record'. Embedded IR (night vision). 4K Video and sound recording is required. Two-way sound is not necessary.

The Swann kits seem to hit the mark. Any reason to not go with them?

How do I wire cameras through my attic with this soffit?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 09:55 AM PST

    Here's my situation: https://imgur.com/a/dpIagO8

I don't want to start drilling and find out I've assumed the wrong Attic-Eave-Soffit configuration and regret the drilling I've done.

How do I know if I've got this (drill straight from attic to soffit) or this (drilling horizontally will drill through the roof) setup? Sadly I've already ruled out the easy-peasy open air from attic to soffit configuration, as you can see in the second photo.

Looking for CCTV for my home

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 09:06 AM PST

    Hello there,

I'm sure this has been asked to death here, and for that, I apologise, but I reckon I won't be the last to ask. ;)

Anyway, I moved into my house a couple of months ago and recently there was an incident across the street. So I got myself a cheap-ish £50 wireless outdoor camera. It's okay, for now, but another incident occurred last night for which the police have been round asking for footage. They want 45 minutes, and long story short, this micro-SD camera is a pain to record. I must playback from the start position and press record and wait for it to play the full 45 minutes before I press stop. Yeah, that's nuts. The data on the micro-SD card is encrypted and so it can only be watched/recorded via the smartphone app.

I've worked with DVRs in the past, especially Hikvision ones and know how the IVMS program works fairly well.

So, after the painful 45 minutes, I've decided to buy a standalone CCTV system that has its own hard drive. I've never worked with NVRs before and so was wondering is that my best option to run a couple of external IP cameras. I have a fast internet connection (500 Mbps average upload & download speeds) so don't think bandwidth would be an issue, I may be wrong?

I will mainly want to set and forget. Motion record would be ideal if it works well - the £50 one I bought has no pre-record buffer and so I miss a lot of stuff as it's slow to record. I've left it at continuous record.

What would be suggested here? I am looking for 1080p cameras, only need 2, 3 max.

I would have the NVR hooked up to my PC monitor. Do NVRs come with smartphone apps? Or does that depend on the manufacturer? The recording functionality needs to be like how I used to do it on analogue Hikvision DVRs (i.e., search date and time range and click search then download).

    Thanks in advance.

PS: Probably guessed, but I'm in UK.

    Repurpose vivint sensors

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:44 AM PST

    Hi all,

Sorry for the ignorant questions in advance. I recently bought a home with a vivint system (sky panel and a bunch of sensors). After a lot of digging it appears the sky panel is a brick without their service. My question is can the sensors be used with other platforms (I have an ecobee and would be more than happy with self monitoring). And I'm assuming there is no legal way to jailbreak the sky panel right? Apologies for these questions but extensive googling has led me nowhere. Thank you!

What’s the advantage of a completely wired system?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 04:43 AM PST

I'm very to this sub and having a difficult time deciding which camera system to buy. I have zero experience with wiring and installing cameras to junction boxes, and don't know if that cost $500 to hire someone to set up these wired systems. I'm moving to a big home in February and want at least 4 cameras. Is eufy or ring my best bet for my tech level? Or should I explore lorex or these Costco systems
