So, what is the best security system (UK)? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:46 PM PDT Hi all Long time reader, recently joined and wanting to ask some questions please. I am located in the UK. I am looking for recommended alarm systems that meet the following criteria
I did have a Risco Lightsys 2 which ticked all the boxes, but there seems to be few installers. I was 'tied in' to the installer too, they were not prepared to give the engineer code (understandable to an extent). I also read that Risco are "big money generators" for installers, which I am fine with in some ways - everyone has to make a living. What was frustrating was the £60 charge for disabling one PIR which was faulty, done remotely in a matter of moments, which if I had control, I could have done myself. Any alternatives to Risco? Price is mostly irrelevant if it is reliable and solid. Thank you [link] [comments]
What steps should I take to secure my home? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:36 PM PDT My wife and I (we're both women) recently learned about a break-in a few doors down from us. The perpetrators kicked the door in around 6pm, barged in, went upstairs, stole some valuables, and promptly left. The family they stole from was home at the time but luckily no one was hurt. We live in a really nice suburban neighborhood and never expected that we'd have to worry about such things. We already own security door jammers for our front and garage doors that we set at night. I'm also thinking maybe we should get an alarm system with cameras and monitoring but I don't know where to start. I consider myself tech savvy but neither of us are handy so installing things ourselves in kind of an non-starter. Are there any other steps we can take to make sure our home is protected? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:14 AM PDT I've realised I've been wary of going down the route of a Pi for recording footage from IP cameras because I didn't necessarily want to have a hard disk connected and was concerned constant recording would tank the SD card. However, is it possible to 'buffer' the footage and only record events (including a few seconds of 'pre-event') ? That way my SD card might last ok... Is there any open source software that does this really well? Particularly the intelligent event detection, like line crossing rather than 1990s era 'motion' detection which creates loads of false positives? Thanks! thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Oct 2020 08:25 PM PDT Hi everyone,
I have been doing a little research on IP Cameras for my business. Going to be setting up 9 cameras, 4 outdoor and 5 indoor.
The most important features for me are image clarity and the ability to remotely view the the camera feeds on mobile devices and PCs.
Right now I am deciding two systems:
Hikvision DS-2CD2143G0-I x9 Hikvision DS-7616NI-Q2/16P
Cost: $1,439.86 @ BHPhoto
Or
Reolink RLN16-410 Reolink RLC-410-5MP x5 Reolink RLC-520-5MP x4
Cost $623.88 @ Amazon (Note NVR + 8 Cameras are a "Kit" then add 1 camera)
With Hikvision being over twice the cost my question is if it's worth it.
Any opinions? [link] [comments] |
