[Vivint] Buying a home and removing Vivint

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:39 AM PDT

SO I'm buying a home with Vivint. . .I know they have the doorbell, some door locks, and window sensors. I'm not a guy who wants Vivint so I will be disconnecting. . .I know they have some sort of panel (the new one?) near the garage entrance.

Question curious if the locks will need to be replaced; the window sensors need replaced. . .or can I use with something else (even if it just amazon alexa alert)

also - can I sell this vivint stuf?

My main focus will be a Unifi setup. . .though I already have wyze cameras for now. Not a big believer in paying for any subscription.

Installing Strike Plate - how close together can two deep 3 or 4 inch screws be that will penetrate the wood stud before they compromise structural integrity of stud?

The plate I bought has 4 screw holes and each pair are about 2 or 3 cms apart. Thanks

Question about mounting security cameras on stucco.

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:44 AM PDT

I am looking to install my security camera system on a stucco wall. I came across an old locked post (link below) about mounting security cameras on stucco walls, but it looks like people are suggesting to use a masonry bit to drill the hole. It sounds like they're doing stucco on concrete. I'm not sure if our system is different. We have a stick frame wall, OSB, paint-on water barrier, 2" styrofoam, then the thin layer of stucco material.

I'm trying to figure out if I should be drilling only into the foam or if I should be punching through the water barrier (DuRock Polar Bear) and anchoring to the OSB.

To deal with the water barrier issue, I was thinking I would drill, put some silicone into the holes, put in the anchor and screw into that.

In case it matters, the cameras weight 1.05lbs (.48kg) each, and the mounts have 3 screw holes.

    Old post mentioned above:

Can I use two different brand p2p wifi cameras with the same app ?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:43 AM PDT

Hi, I bought two differents p2p wifi cameras, these cameras that you plug them into the power andd connect them into wifi and from a mobile app so you can see everything... but I bought one and now I have another one, exactly the same looking, but they're differents brands, my question is if I can use the same mobile app to connect them or that's impossible ? because I think they have some ID that's created when they develop the cameras, so maybe that's why it's not working...

    photo of the cameras

Here I put a link with a photo of how cameras look like

Thermal Camera and Audible Alert (Hikvision)

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:48 AM PDT

I'm trying to find out whether this is possible with Hikvision gear.

I'm looking to by a hikvision bispectrum thermal camera purely for fire detection. The hikconnect this will give me a push notification alarm. That's all well and good, but overnight that's not going wake me up. Has anyone got a Hikvision alarm system, and if so, can a camera alert trigger the audible siren on the Ax Hub (axiom hub in Australia)?

    Thanks.

    Lorex Push Notifications Not Working

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 05:59 PM PDT

Hi All. I'm hoping someone can help me out. I bought a new Lorex system with 12 4K cameras.

It's one of their new products here is the link to what I bought: https://www.lorextechnology.com/4k-ip-camera-system/4k-ultra-hd-ip-nvr-security-camera-system-with-12-ip-cameras/4KHDIP1612I-2-1-p

So the issue I am having is that push notifications don't work at all. Not on my iPhone, not in my iPad. Not even the email snapshots notifications work.

I've contacted lorex support and they have no idea what's wrong with it. Also needless to say. Their support is abysmal. All over seas and barely speak English. I am thinking about returning the system.

Has anyone ever had issues with push notifications? Is there anything that anyone could recommend that can help me fix this issue??? I just for the life of me cannot understand why the push notifications don't work at all! Even the event list on the iPhone app isn't working. It shows no file.

Is it me? Or is something majorly jacked up? Anything anyone can recommend I try to get push notifications working?

Is that a camera that can use an App just like a cellphone ?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 10:41 PM PDT

So, I'm using at the moment an old phone in a cup on the floor close to a window and facing to the outside to capture any movement, and the reason is mainly to find who's not picking up after his/her dog and leaving brown gifts all over.

I downloaded an app called Alfred (I found out about it in Reddit) and it's really nice. It stores everything in their cloud for 7 days. It only captures when things are moving, like an animal or person walking by ..etc.

Now, the set-up with the cellphone is not ideal.

Is there some tiny camera that can use the App just like the cellphone ? I was thinking to fasten it neatly somehow at one corner of the window or the frame and run its cable discreetly along the window trim ..etc.

I'm looking in Aliexpress trying to find some products but I'm not expert in all this.

    Kwickset 910 Exclusion process

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 07:03 PM PDT

I had Vivint come pickup their equipment (I didn't care for it) but they forgot to exclude my deadbolt !!

I just purchased a Ring alarm system and it won't completely pair with this deadbolt. I'm assuming because it's still paired with the old Vivint system that's no longer in my home ???

Does anyone have any steps on how I can pair this with my new system ???
