non-internet video camera for rural cabin Posted: 14 Jul 2020 03:57 PM PDT I am looking to install a camera on the inside of a cabin near a small lake. There is no internet in the cabin. I am not interested in paying for a 3/4g plan just for a camera. The camera could be plugged in or run on its own battery (as long as it last 30 days min). The camera could record via motion/sound onto its on hard drive/micro SD card. Big bonus if it has the ability for me to remote check it (though I would assume I would be out of luck with out paying for a 3/4g data plan). Is there anything like this or should I just get a hard drive based system. Any single camera indoor systems that are compact that are recommended? Any 3-4 camera wireless camera systems that do not require internet to run that are affordable. This cabin is not a high target I would just rather be safe then sorry. [link] [comments]
Building gate keypad access with single use codes -- any recommendations? Posted: 14 Jul 2020 02:18 PM PDT So was hoping for some feedback on an access control system I was planning to build for my gate, as a fun weekend project. I've wanted keycode access that strangers (like grocery delivery) or known folks (like the lawn crew) can use, one time or only at certain scheduled times, with logging, etc. We're inner city and have fencing out the sidewalk, and no doorbell on the gate -- not a single solicitor in 10 years! But I'd love to get rid of the keybox for the lawn crew and such though. note, I enjoy creating things as much as having them...so part of this is wanting to build it. And having specific features I have full control of, along with better security often not found in more expensive products...and I try to avoid needing internet access or wireless in automation/security when possible. But its just a gate to a house, not a bank. :) Basic layout plan is this: main controller (Pi some other controller) and power supply live in a box on the side of the house, connected to power and ethernet. Wired cable goes underground to the gate with power, and signals for gate open, gate open/close status, serial data to/from the keypad, and possibly audio channels. On the gate are an electronic latch, sensor for gate open/close status, and a keypad/controller/display. The keypad will have it's own microcontroller (maybe a Teensy?) but is as dumb as possible in case it gets stolen. I don't want my automation date, network access, etc walking off if the whole thing gets stolen...so its really just a terminal for the main controller. Keypad functions would be sending keys to the main controller, a noise maker, tamper switch, and possibly 2-way audio. And probably a simple display of some sort. As for security, the gate wire would be run underground and enter the metal gate pole underground, and exit into the latch and keypad from inside the pole without being exposed. As the main controller makes all the decisions (and the open latch wire won't run to the keypad) it couldn't be bypassed electrically from the outside. The control software would allow:
So, say we're getting a grocery delivery. Grab a new one-time, one-day code from our home app, put it in the notes. Delivery happens, we get a notice about the delivery, and the code can't used again. (But if say, a week later someone tried to use that code at midnight, it would instant alarm and tell us who tried to regain access.) Later would add integration in similar ways to the driveway swing gate and lock -- so the lawn crew could open that gate from the same keypad. Probably seems like overkill...but also a fun simple project (for me) that has a lot of utility. What am I missing, or what is stupid? Thanks! [link] [comments]
IP camera for baby monitoring suggestion Posted: 14 Jul 2020 04:05 AM PDT Looking for an IP security camera, mostly for baby monitoring. Would like to have: - IR and night vision - ONVIF compatible (but if installation isnt very complicated to configure it will be good) - motion detection/baby cry detection will be pros, but not nesessary - 720 or better 1080p - Wi-Fi easy connection. I would like to connect camera without access to Wi-FI router with RJ45 wire (as i need to do with my chinese camera now), just want to use wi-fi login/pass for camera and my phone - 360 degrees or tilt and zoom - iOS compartible - i don't need video recording and built-in microphone. and good quality of camera as well. thinking about hikvision, dahua, foscam, wyse, ubiquiti, amrest and even axis and more expensive brands as well if it better. i'm not looking for cheap camera, would like to buy something good and stable. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Jul 2020 05:53 PM PDT Hello all, I'm in the market for a nightstand gun and I've identified the firearm (Glock) I plan on purchasing. This will not only be intended to protect me but my fiancé as well. However, the following give us both pause on the idea of bringing a gun into our bedroom: my fiancé has night terrors, is nearly always startled when woken, and sleepwalks frequently. I'll wake up to take a piss at 3:00am and stumble back into the bedroom and she'll start screaming "who are you?!?!" and grabbing pillows and objects to throw at me before realizing it's me. She feels horrible after this happens but her freaking out isn't what bothers me, it's how lucid and active she can be while in this state of terror. We both fear, in situations like this, that she can grab the firearm not knowing it's me who's entered the room. I want her to have access to it if she needs it, obviously, but neither one of us really trust her in this state. I'm posting here to see if anyone has any solutions, or ways to mitigate any potential danger associated with introducing a gun to our situation. Thanks! [link] [comments]

I just want to have it like now when doors and windows open to get alert but when I'm away if someone breaking in the alarm Will go on even thou it won't call or alert any company. Any suggestions?
