Need home security recommendations please! (ALMOST got locked in by ADT...)

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:58 PM PST

Would really appreciate recommendations on a home security system. I was this close to getting locked into 3 yrs. w/ADT before I cancelled the install this morning (more on that below if anyone's interested lol).

SimpliSafe or Abode seem like the best fits so far. I'd be adding pro monitoring and probably 2-3 extra sensors. Any feedback on them or others would be great; thanks!

    —— For anyone interested——

A random guy w/ an ADT dealer showed up at my house yesterday talking about "Hey, I was just in your area and my guy was supposed to come by a couple months ago to talk to you, did he do that?". Uhh, no...

I let him in to do his pitch b/c I do need a system and I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Luckily for him, all I know about home security is that ADT is a huge name. Combine that with a pretty good sales pitch and (don't laugh) a limited time offer of ~$5K worth of waived equipment/fees...I decided to go for it. At $70 a month for 3 yrs...lol

I figured out pretty quickly that it was a bad deal and called this morning to cancel the install. The guy (who was super nice & personable before) wouldn't take no for an answer for 30 f***** minutes. He said stuff like "why would you need to do your own research when the FBI/govt has done it for you"..."you're wasting your time looking around, don't you remember that I already told you everything about our competitors?"..."You keep calling me a salesman and I'm taking offense to it"..."You know, I actually liked you yesterday"...

My tiny experience with them sucked. That's it. End of rant!

Need help, my home network has been hacked

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:57 AM PST

I got an email about a week ago from my ISP saying my home security is at risk. It was to do with "Multicast DNS" and potentially being DDoS'd. I call them and get no particular reason and I am told to go to the ISP's forum (virgin media in the UK). I make a post about it and realise its potentially my DMZ being messed with when I was opening ports for my PS4. The ports opened were not the issue, it was my DMZ configuration, so I reversed that (I have now just completely rest my router to factory settings in case).

Today I open my mobile banking to see most of my money gone. As someone who is an unemployed graduate I had lost just over £1,000. All of the money had been funneled to some Amazon account (not mine, no transactions on my account linking to this). I called my bank and they are refunding my money, but upon speaking to a friend who has a junior position in cyber security, I have learnt that I am still totally at risk. Is this the case?

What is at risk? My passwords? My cards will continue to be at risk even if I get a new one? Sensitive info? This is all very worrying for me and my family and I think that its terrible you can't speak to a human about your security issues to get it solved with this ISP. Please tell me if I am still in the danger zone and how i can fix this. Someone must have hacked into my home network and got my card details.

    Dahua's dropping off network regularly

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 08:58 PM PST

If this isn't the right place, I apologize.

I have 6 IP cameras. 3 of them are PoE Dahua's (2x of one model, 1x of a different model number). These cameras have been in place for 3 years. They are also spread across multiple POE switches.

As of ~December, ALL of the Dahuas drop off the network at intervals (The Hikvision and Reolinks, work just fine) often around the same time. They won't ping and Blue Iris loses connection. I've factory reset them. I've updated the firmware. I'm losing my sanity fighting this.

Has anyone seen anything like this? If I leave them unresponsive for days, they never come back online, I have to disconnect the network, wait a minute then reconnect it. The network ports indicate power and network usage even while non-responsive.

can someone recommend a security system for me please?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:04 PM PST

I'm looking to put in a security system in a climbing gym for liability issues first, theft second though I am not as concerned with that. The facility is small and I am able to mount all cameras within 30' of what they will be recording. I have already bought, wired, and installed a zosi system and it has been nothing short of a nightmare and waste of time. Ideally I would like to run 6 cameras, but I am on a really tight budget and am considering just running 4 right now and adding 2 later. I have read a lot of threads here and am split between reolink and blue iris. I will be doing the install and maintenance and want to spend as little time as possible long term. I have read good things about reolink and the app and windows interface - it's supposedly reliable and easy to use according to this sub. It seems pretty close to plug and play. I am a bit confused about blue iris. I have an acer aspire tc-780 PC with i5 that I am running with a 2TB HDD. I just purchased an SSD to upgrade and was wondering if it would be cheaper/easier/possible to run blue iris from the PC and use the HDD to store the video footage or if I need a separate PC to run the system with blue iris. I am feeling pretty lost with all this.

Will zosi camera work with blue iris?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 11:57 AM PST

I have already wired 6 zosi cameras with an NVR but the UI is awful and it keeps dropping recording and i'm finding the recording quality horrible. The camera isn't listed on the blue iris compatibility chart but someone else has told me these are just rebadged hikvision cameras. It is a zosi ZG2612B model. Looks like this. Do I need to start over or can I put together a new system with these cameras?

    Ranch Gate Keypad & Camera

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:11 AM PST

Not sure if this the best place for this question. I'm looking to upgrade my current ranch gate setup that takes pictures and sends notifications whenever someone enters and leaves the property. The system was installed by a company that is no longer around and I'm in need of a replacement that I will have better control over.

Has anyone setup up a similar system or have any recommendations on how to setup a similar system?

I'm only looking to replace the current keypads and cameras in place.

Wyze Cam v3 availability and/or alternatives?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 08:47 AM PST

This thing is dirt-cheap and has a ton of features... so of course it's out of stock, everywhere.

    So I'm wondering:

Anyone know when they should be more widely available?

Is there any brick & mortar where I could get these?

What's the closest alternative as far as features, price, or both?

    Hikvision DS-7216HQHI-F2 / N Compatible Cameras [UK]

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 10:21 AM PST

Hi all, i currently have an Hikvision DS-7216HQHI-F2 / N DVR. Currently connected via BNC is 3x mixed analogue cameras from around 2011 that work as expected.

I'm wanting to replace these / add more onto the system but struggling to find something that's compatible and works.

I have some old Swan UK cameras that do not seem to work but i'm not sure of the spec so it is possible they aren't compatible.

I purchased the below from Amazon to see it's quality that has multiple output modes and none of these seem to work either, the system doesn't detect any camera is connected.

SANNCE AHD/TVI/CVI/CVBS 4-in-1 1080p Security Camera IP66 Weatherproof Analog CCVT Surveillance Camera for Indoor and Outdoor Use 100 ft Night Vision-Bullet Camera https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08CKS1G6H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_4phcGbMRW3WZX

The only thing i haven't managed to try yet is a direct connection through phono to the TV to see if it will show on there.

It's annoying because if you gave me a proper network IP camera i'd have it sorted in no time!

    Any advice would be useful!

    Thanks

Moving Honeywell Keypad to different location.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:30 AM PST

Hi, I'm in the process of moving my keypad closer to the door. It's a 'Honeywell Alphanumeric Programming Hardwired Alarm Keypad'

I bought 10 feet of wire at The Home Depot. My plan is... Call the Alarm Company, stop monitoring while I'm moving it. Disconnect the power and battery... remove the keypad, insert and connect my new extension on the wire, run new (loner) wire to the new location, and reconnect the keypad. This correct? Any pointers?

    Doorbell Cameras and MAC filtering

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 03:52 AM PST

I am in the market for a doorbell camera, specifically one with local storage and OVNIF compatibility. I see lots of good recommendations in this sub for various models, thank you.

My question is: If I implement MAC filtering to prevent the doorbell from accessing the internet, will it also disrupt either the initial set-up and the day-to-day function of the camera? In other words, are these doorbells trying to "call home" in order to work properly? Also, if I am storing video locally, are the phone apps accessing that video directly from the camera storage, or do the apps rely on the cloud? Welcome recommendations and advice. Thanks.

A decent stickup solar cam with memory card inside incase wifi goes out?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:42 AM PST

Im looking for a cam for my farm gate, had some thieves lately. It's close enough to get a wifi signal, but no way I could wire it. It'd be nice if it could keep working if wifi drops. It also needs to be water proof and tough it's going to be out in the rain. Suggestions?
