Every google search on "Most reliable Security System" brings up "smart systems", I want to make sure whatever I buy is Reliable. If your main concern was reliability what system would you choose?

Any suggestions for top of the line window locks?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 04:10 AM PDT

The only window locks i can find(for windows that slide up and down) are those 5 dollar locks from home depot. Any websites or stores that I can find some real good window locks. I feel like it would be a waste to get a good sturdy frame and shatter proof glass, then to just stick a regular home depot lock on it. Thanks.

    ADT sales

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 03:07 PM PDT

We bought a house and haven't been here a month yet. A guy I think from an ADT authorized dealer shows up yesterday afternoon. What I thought was odd is that he made it out as though our house had some sort of credit on the account and they should have disclosed this at selling. My immediate thought was this was a terrible sales pitch. Is it common for them to say things like that?

We are interested in home security but I doubt I'll be calling this guy.

    Annke Camera Advice

    Annke Camera Advice

    Hi,

I've just bought some Annke C800 cameras - they fitted my budget and seemed to do ok in the reviews I saw.

Previously I've had Hikvision cameras, so I can see they are clearly OEMing Hikvision models.

Initially they seem fine, but I've hit a couple of issues that I'm hoping others will have overcome:

    1. There doesn't seem to be any firmware available to update them. Has anyone found any or managed to use equivalent model Hikvision firmware?

    My Firmware

    2) I seem to be unable to save the sub-stream setting with a higher fps than the main stream. So although the sub-stream can manage 25 fps, it has to be reduced to 12 before a "Save succeeded" message is received. Otherwise you just get a "Device Error".

    Main-Stream Settings

    Sub-Stream Settings - showing a failed save

Sub-Stream Settings - showing successful save

Out of the box the default settings have this error, so it's not something I've set and I'm sure others must have hit this too.

Any ideas or experience with these or similar?

    TIA.

    Cost of Wired Security System

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 11:25 AM PDT

I'm purchasing a new construction home, and I'm looking to install a home security system. Ideally I'd have everything hard-wired (especially since it's easiest while the home is still under construction) including all windows and doors. However, to get all the pre-wiring I want, the home construction company only offers a package that's ~$3600, partially because it includes quite a few things that I don't need, such as extra wired smoke detectors and motion sensors (my pets set them off too often).

I feel like the price is pretty outrageous, but it doesn't seem like I have any options, unless I want to forgo the pre-wiring of the security system. Does anybody have an idea of what this typically should cost? The size of the house is ~3000 sqft.

is an old PC the best way to start building a home camera system that can flex in the future. I am a cheap DIY type.

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 11:21 AM PDT

I want to install a few cameras around my house outside. I like to do things really cheap and DIY, so I would imagine used cameras, and some sort of cheap or free software that records to a pc but only when something triggers the camera.

Is this the best way ? I would like to be able to get some hidden cameras one day or upgrade, ad more. have some flexibility so probably something that takes advantage of the WIFI internet.

Expand 8 channel NVR using PoE switch?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 10:18 PM PDT

I have a NVR that I bought a while ago that has 8 channels, with 7 of them used. I built a tiny house in my backyard and would like to add two cameras on it. With only one more ethernet port available, but two cameras needed, can I just buy a switch like this and just expand my NVR to have more ports?

    Thanks
