Looking for a threaded-insert type solution for securing french door on shed Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:33 PM PDT I'm wondering if anyone knows offhand any good threaded inserts that I could use to secure the non-active leaf of a french door on a shed that I have set up as a home office/high end bike storage. I've already installed carriage bolts in the strap-hinges and secured them inside the shed using lock washers and wide washers to make sure that the door can't be as easily removed. I see a lot of thread inserts for wood that are typically used in joinery for things like furniture making. It seems to be kind of hard to find longer inserts that would sit farther into the frame around the door. What I'd envisioned was something like a thread insert that is half lag bolt so that I can install it to a good depth, and then I could use a bolt and a heavier-duty L bracket to secure the non-active leaf of the door. This would save me from having to unscrew and then re-screw the screws I'm using with the current, lighter-duty L-brackets I have to help make sure that the door can't just be yanked open. TL;DR: Trying to find a longer/beefier thread insert than appears to be common (a lot of what I've found seems to be for furniture making) so that I can screw/unscrew bolts into the insert to secure an L bracket to one side of a french door so it can't be yanked open. Open to suggestions! [link] [comments] |
Home Security System for a Classroom? Need recommendations. Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:33 PM PDT I would like to try to use a home security system for my classroom. I am teaching into the classroom via Zoom (health reasons) and I can't see the whole room or all of the students. I'm thinking a wireless security system that I can monitor at home on a large monitor or TV. The room is approximately 30' X 60' with a weird divider device in the middle that stays open. I think the room would need at least 4 cameras. Ultimately, I would like a microphone(s) too. I do not need memory and I do not need a monitoring service. Also, just motion sensor won't work because I will want it on the entire school day. I could like to say price doesn't matter but it is a public school in one of the lowest funded state. I will be using fundraising (anyone want to buy some popcorn?) and need to be realistic. Does anyone have any genius ideas? Thanks for reading and considering! [link] [comments] |
Looking for security camera with LED light. Any recommendations? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:38 AM PDT Hey, I looked through other subreddit, and find the post, and he said a man with a knife showed around his house. I just moved to a new place where seemed not safe cuz I cannot afford nice place during COVID-19. Anyway, I want to install a security camera. The camera itself can deter the intruders, but I think it can be more effective. I'm looking for cheap camera with lights. Not with siren, for siren is not allowed here. Or a security camera with a separate motion-triggered LEDs? Which one you recommend? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Are Pella steel doors good for security? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:42 PM PDT I'm looking to redo a door/frame that's about 25 years old and rotting. Looking to replace with security in mind. Are the steel pella doors considered a good option? Also, what else should I be considering when doing new framing and locks? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:27 PM PDT Hello to anyone reading this, thank you for taking time out of your day to help me out. I current have two ring cameras and a chime pro (in order to extend range) and I read on r/ring that ring shares recordings with 3rd parties. I am simply looking for a wireless security system that does not share my information with anyone and that does most of the things ring does. The features that are most important to me are the following: completely wireless (besides the power) app to view live feed remotely link motion /contact sensors without needing extra equipment privacy (of course !) I really only need a few cameras and sensors btw Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Google Drive FTP Server Help please. Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:03 PM PDT Trying to setup a camera to gather evidence against my insane neighbour's. The camera i got seems to not want to upload to my phone when it senses motion though it says i can upload videos to "my server via FTP function." I'm just looking for the safest way to upload these videos to my google drive. I found one site saying to use Raidrive and Google Drive FTP Adapter but i'll be using them blind as i don't understand what these tools do behind the scenes. [link] [comments] |
Outdoor camera location question Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:19 AM PDT Hi, I have a nest doorbell but want to put an outdoor camera to cover my driveway. I am thinking of going with the nest IQ but also seen the blink. The best IQ looks like better quality and I already have the subscription. I am also unsure where to put it so it does not stand out and take away from the house. Any suggestions? I appreciate it. My plan is to run the cord up into the but not sure where to put the camera. Options for connecting flood lights to a camera detection event? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 03:57 PM PDT |
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:19 AM PDT This is in regard to camera placement on the back of my property which abuts an empty lot. Should I place the camera on the corner of my home and angle it along my back wall or should I place it near my property line, which is about 25' from the house and orient it toward the back wall of my house. I'm worried about capturing all of the area if mounted in my home. It would be mounted near my sliding glass door but unsure it would capture our master bedroom window. If mounted by property line it would be relatively well concealed due to a slight hill and some rhododendrons. [link] [comments] |
[HELP] Home Surveilance Advice Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:36 AM PDT Hi all, I am looking for home and outside Surveilance system that can be easily accessed via Android for a remote house (have 20mbit unlimited data connection). I don't mind if its a chinese cloud based app, as long as it works in the EU. For outside, I would need motorized (or static) water proof cameras and for inside, non-IP rated camera. I have one, Mija home camera which works good, but its not IP rated so its a no go for outside mounting. Could you suggest me some solution?Budget is up to 500 euro, 2 outside and two indoor cameras. I've looked into hikvision products, but setting up remote monitoring is a bit unclear to me at this point. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
DIY Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera System Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:02 AM PDT Hello everyone, I'm looking for a recommendation into some security cameras around my house. I'm new to all of this so far, so please bear with me. I've looked around this subreddit a little bit, as well as some other browsing around the internet, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed about the number of options/companies. I can't quite find exactly what I'm looking for through my own research, but maybe someone here can help me. Here's what I'm looking for, but I'm willing to be flexible on some of these points if there's not an exact system to fit my needs:
So far, the two brands that caught my eye were Eufy and Arlo, but wasn't completely sold on either. For Eufy, it seems like not every camera can interact with their central hub. It looks like they're possibly working on it, but I don't know if I want to buy in a system with the hopes that it'll be solved in the future. For Arlo, I've seen some people complain about video quality/false positives or delayed notifications on their cameras, though I'm not sure if that's true for everyone. Any help is appreciated! Thank you [link] [comments] |
